In terms of genre, you're right. But he was punk before it was cool to be punk.

I think if Woody came out now, he'd be considered riot-folk. especially with the alt. lyrics to "this land is your land".

I love how a few bands in the last few years have taken his words, and put them to music. Dropkick Murphys, Billy Bragg/Wilco, etc.

An amazing man. Words aren't even enough to describe his legacy.

Sorry to bump this thread, but I had heard a duet that he had written the lyrics to on my school's torch and twang station last night and I can't remember what it was. It was a really simple tune, but was great nonetheless.

I guess that's all that really needs to be said. Love the Library of Congress recordings because you can hear him talk about his life and the times and how they relate to the songs. A must for big fans of his.
