Kerrang! have compiled their list of what they think are the 50 greatest punk albums of all time (http://rateyourmusic.com/list/unj/kerrang__50_greatest_punk_albums_ev er/).

Apparently the Get Up Kids put out one of the fifty greatest punk records of all time.......hmmm...

Hahaha It's Jason, DrewB. You know he'd have to find SOME way to incorporate Calvin & Hobbes or Get Fuzzy into the website!

pretty decent list, although i'm sure most of the nerds on this site will bitch that Dookie is too high

dukeboy1986
11/27/06, 07:20 PM
Haha, since when are the Get Up Kids punk?

Chemical Love
11/27/06, 07:20 PM
The Offspring - Americana? I dont agree with some of that list.

Awesome!

(This list is very bad. Very, very bad.)

11/27/06, 07:25 PM
Alot of good albums get their due by being in the top 50, alot seem out of place. Ramones and Clash need to be higher up. Sex Pistols need to be farther down (so overrated)... surprised to see Enema of the State and Hello Rockview on there. I can agree with Offspring's Smash but no way is Americana worthy of being in the top 50.

emiliodelgado
11/27/06, 07:25 PM
Refused needs to be #1

homerjay
11/27/06, 07:26 PM
Putting Rancid ahead of the Clash and Blink ahead of the Descendents seems kinda odd. Kinda like putting Oasis ahead of the Beatles (okay, maybe not THAT dramatic, but still...).

11/27/06, 07:28 PM

Never asked anyone to be, so it really doesn't matter.

Big_Guy
11/27/06, 07:29 PM
I agree with a lot of them

EyesOfMadness
11/27/06, 07:34 PM
Sex Pistols as number one makes me want to puke all over myself, and agreed at everyone who thinks Refused to be wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Higher...

Nirvana shouldn't even BE on that list...

waggy
11/27/06, 07:36 PM
saw number 1 and immediatly felt the need to complain about how anyone can think the sex pistols are the pinnacle of punk rock. they're an interesting story, but not so much with the good music.

xbrianspx
11/27/06, 07:36 PM
ok. so Green Day and The Offspring are the reason i started listening and playing this type of music. But that list is way off.

Americana in the top 20?

and The Ramones don't appear until #10?

catscradle
11/27/06, 07:37 PM
this list is pathetic.

Jamais_vu
11/27/06, 07:37 PM
Worst. List. Ever. Minor Threat at 11? Bad Religion at 30 something? The Dwarves in the 40's? WTF? They don't know what punk means. You don't even have the ramones in the top 10, while bands that aren't even punk are in there.

Edit - HOLY SHIT, I totally missed refused! They are fucking crazy putting them that low. The shape of punk...is top 5 for sure.

TripleW24
11/27/06, 07:39 PM
I am a firm believer that Blink's bese album was Dude Ranch and I would have liked to see it on there.

kallok
11/27/06, 07:40 PM
I dunno about this list. Woulda been nice to at least see the Dead Boys in there somewhere around 45 or so.

catchmealone
11/27/06, 07:40 PM
One of the worst lists ever?
I'm a huge Bosstones fan, but to put them in the top 50 punk albums ever? Let alone an album that isn't even widely considered(by Bosstones fans) to be their best.

OliviaSnook
11/27/06, 07:40 PM
being english, i've learnt that kerrang is a bunch of bullshit and isn't worth reading.
so don't be surprised by a bullshit list off them. they officially like what's popular at the time...and nothing else...in the magazine anyway.

The Silencer
11/27/06, 07:41 PM
I really don't think that these albums can be put in an ordered list...it should just be "50 of the greatest punk albums ever"

with that said...why the fuck are the get-up kids on that list?

bankrom
11/27/06, 07:41 PM
it's a really interesting list. much more of a mix than i would have expected. i think ixnay on the hombre was a better offspring record than americana, but like someone said earlier...

the offspring ahead of fugazi?
blink ahead of minor threat and refused?

i like that the bosstones and will haven made the list, though.

oh and i am in the camp that would rank insomniac ahead of dookie.

/rant

catchmealone
11/27/06, 07:45 PM
I'm in that camp as well. Dookie is the album that broke Green Day through, but Insomniac was much better.

And I love seeing the Bosstones getting some recognition, but I will openly admit they didn't create one of the 50 greatest punk albums of all time.

kevowhat1!!
11/27/06, 07:45 PM
I would of loved to see Bad Religion's No Control on there. Its one of my faves.

too bad they couldn't put "live from the middle east" on there. that record owns.

catchmealone
11/27/06, 07:49 PM
agreed.

too bad they couldn't put "live from the middle east" on there. that record owns.
sure does. great mix of old and "new"(for the time, alot of songs from Let's Face It). I usually recommend that record to people who have Let's Face It and want to get into some of their older stuff. If they liked Live From The Middle East, they would like just about every Bosstones record prior.

That sure makes sense.

Here's one for you though: What a poorly constructed sentence.

Why's that? Was I supposed to write something scathing and cause a scene? Which by calling me out and making his inital statement, seems to give off what he was wanting to happen.
He says he doesn't like me. Good for him. A lot of people don't, that's just how life goes. No one is going to be a huge ball of sunshine to everyone in this world due to personality clashes.

Refused should be in the top 10. and How Green Day is above The Ramones is beyond me. I agree with alot of the bands they chose, but the rankings are pretty iffy.

*crying stars*
11/27/06, 08:03 PM
I like Melissa; she's so much nicer than half the posters on here.

pretty decent list, although i'm sure most of the nerds on this site will bitch that Dookie is too high

*bitch bitch bitch bitch*

Because even though I am not as into the punk scene as many others here are, I know for a fact that there are other albums on that list that should have been higher than Dookie.

HoboAdam
11/27/06, 08:06 PM
some good albums up and alot of albums that arent in my top 100. where is the love for operation ivy. dookie is an amazing album, but number 2. how can the albums that influence green day be way behind

1. The Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bullocks
2. The Ramones - The Ramones
3. The Clash - London Calling
4. Green Day - Dookie
5. Operation Ivy - Energy
6. The Misfits - Static Age
7. Minor Threat - Complete Discography
8. Bad Religion - Surfer
9. NOFX - Pump Up The Vallum
10. Blink 182 - Enema Of The State

revised top 10 IMHO.

RememberFminus2
11/27/06, 08:15 PM
theres no way the sex pistols should be one. im suprised black sails is on there, it should be higher, but i didnt even think theyd have it on there. dookie is too high.

I've never been a fan of "punk" music persay, but when I think greatest punk albums of all time Nirvana would have never come to mind. When I think punk music I instantly think The Clash, The Ramones and Bad Religion which is what I was expecting to round out the top 3 before I took a glimpse at the list.

The order of that list is so messed up. Bad Brains should be 1 or at least in the top 5. Sex Pistols, Nirvana, The Offspring, and Rancid really shouldn't be on the list. At least Discharge is in the top 10. Putting Blink in front of Black Flag, Minor Threat. The Stooges, Bad Brains, Misfits, Cro-Mags, etc. is absurd.

Really awful list.

Lemieux66

Americana at #20, The Shape of Punk to Come at #28. Fuck off.

revised top 10 IMHO.

The album is called Suffer.

Kerrang's list is a steaming pile of shit. What about more of Bad Religion's albums, who IMO are the greatest punk rock band the face of the world has ever seen. Against The Grain may well be my favourite album of all time and should be on that fucking list. There are so many great albums that they have missed and replaced with shitty records. I would sooner be fucked in the ass than have Americana in my top 50 list. Kerrang you are a bunch of brainless fucks.

chitty
11/27/06, 09:28 PM
well hahah i'll just say I feel a lot better about Kerrang writing bad reviews for cds I am into because if they put the offspring anywhere in that list, we are on a completely different wavelength and I can now rest easy knowing that their opinion is annoying.

Enema certainly isn't Blink's best work.

Enema of the State? Great album and Im sooo happy blink got on that list and ranked so high, but what about Dude Ranch? Nirvana is punk folks, do the research and you will see for yourself. Grunge was what the media called them, kurt always refered to them as a punk band. And they are not over rated and the Foo Fighters suck now. As for Smash..yes! Americana....No Ixnay On The Hombre.....YES!

And as someone said before..wheres at the drive in?

Hawthorne Heights should be on that....hahahahahahaha

xvolcomstonex
11/27/06, 10:33 PM
i thought it was funny to see enema of the state on there rather that dude ranch, but i guess you could argue that enema of the state set the stage for so many other bands to follow after that, after 1999, pop punk was def. huge, and enema of the state was probably the reason why. dude ranch was by far a better album, but it didnt get the recognition it deserved at the time.

Agreed, it's a fucking awful magazine. Every single issue is full of mistakes, such as band members named wrong or attributed to the wrong instrument ie say Jade is AFI's bassist. They made a list of top 20 emo songs or something along those lines and it was an absolute joke.

i wonder if there is ever like a punk dude that wears suspenders and listens to like bad brains who is looking for a good punk rock site online and comes upon this website. im sure theres like a rise in punk suicide after this site was created. or maybe its like this site is so not punk that when its called absolute punk it becomes so ironic it is punk.... pretty deep stuff.

Chevy114
11/28/06, 05:48 AM
HAHA how did one of the greatest EMO bands of all times, (The get up kids) make the top 50 punk albums? I love the kids but this list is stupid when #2 is dookie by green day and you put a bunch of ska bands and indie bands on there. That's almost like me naming the best baseball players ever and including michael jordan since he was the greatest basketball player who played a little baseball, these sounds are similar but different.

FinchBulldog2

If you are old enough to have picked up a copy of "Bollocks" when it was a "new release", you wouldn't be disputing it's placement at #1. Unfortunately, I may be the only one on AP.net old enough to remember. This is/was the real deal, folks. Released at the height of the disco craze and arena schlock (check your history books), this is the album that changed everything (eventually). It wasn't the first punk album, but it remains the "absolute" punk album. Sorry if you missed it.

Well, there's a difference between "most influential" and "best". The Sex Pistols were a punk rock boy band who couldn't play their instruments. The Clash could play circles around them and delivered (IMO) a much more important message.
