ooh, I'm not good with the whole waves... I never know what goes where unless it's 3rd wave. But my favourite 3rd wave ska band is [Spunge]. Well, their early stuff.

1st: Desmond Dekker
2nd: Mark Foggo's Skasters
3rd: I don't really know too many, but probably Keasby Nights is one of my favorite albums, so I guess Catch 22.
And Desmond Dekker is definetly my favorite out of those.

You listen to LoC but not Choking Victim? Oh man, I love CV so much more, a major reason I wanted to see LoC was just in the hopes they would play Five Finger Discount, which they did not.

Sublime and The Aquabats
Sublime is to Ska what The Clap is to STD's , terrible but treatable .
That being said .... my fave ska bands from waves 1 , 2 & 3 are :
1) - Desmond Dekker
2) Maddness
3) The Mighty Mighty BossToneS
over all I would have to say The Mighty Mighty BossToneS are my fave Ska / Ska Core band .
well...i've heard the Suicide Machines were consitered ska and i've always liked them.

haha, that reminded me of this...

nah nah fair question. well it just seems silly to me, ska music doens't 'come & go' like the theory suggests. it's always there & there's a lot of bands who don't 'fit' into the categories either. it seems to be only accepted to be a strong theory within america, i'm not saying it's wrong & i'm right or anything stupid. i just don't agree with it mate
Ryan Damage
12/06/06, 07:15 PM
Ok, that's fair enough, I've never heard anyone dispute it before so I had no idea what disputes there could even be.

Can't stand 'em.
As for being against the 'waves'...not really sure where I stand on that. It's true that ska has never really "come and gone," it's always been there...but there are different sounds to each wave, and that's how they're defined, so I don't know...

taken directly from your profile:
Well, I am 21 years old and I'm in the in college, and I attend New York University. I am white, caucasian, and I'm about 5"4. I am usually a very outgoing person, that is, only when I am with people that I am very close with. Generally, though I am very shy in the situation, but once I get to know a person I am usually a very agrresive and fun person to be around. I love to go to concert,s I go to one like all the time. I haven't been fortunate enough to see some of my all time favorite bands, YET, but I have seen The All-American Rejects like 5 times or so, I have been to the Warped Tour where I met The Academy Is and Cartel. I also have been to the Bamboozle Festival where I saw bands like Fall Out Boy. I have seen The Academy Is once in concert. Overall, I love music, I love talking about it and listenig to it, but that is about it. I used to be a drummer, I played for a really long tiem but I stopped, and a guiat palyer. I am thinking about attedning college for four years and going into the medical field, and I like stores like Urban Outfitters. I also love to write fictional love stories. Basically, you don't have to be punk to be friends with me, I love all different kinds of people, as long as your not a fake bitch then I'll talk to you. I don't mind them, but I don't consider a fake bitch a friend, like someone who pretends to be someone that they are not. I am a pretty versatile person when it comes to my friends. Some of my friends are trendy, nerdy, you name it, all of the above
and im the one in special ed?

i see what your saying there mate, but i'll throw ya an example of what i'm saying. what about this so called '3rd wave.' how would you describe it? 'cause most people have told me the '3rd wave' is the punk/ska sounds. yet where do modern bands like the slackers, hepcat, stubborn all-stars, go jimmy go, the insteps, the aggrolites, skinnerbox, pressure cooker, etc, etc. fit into it? some of them sound like their straight out of the 60's. are waves classified by time periods or general sounds of the music? either way there's a ton of flaws in it. & don't take this the wrong way mate, i'm not having a crack at you in any respect whatsoever, this is purely for discussion purposes. & hey prove me wrong if you will, this isn't a pride thing mate, just my opinion
The waves confuse me but:
1st: The Skatalittes
2nd: The Specials
3rd: Reel Big Fish or The Planet Smashers
If we're talking about waves as in purely years, and not the style.
sidekicksuicide

1st: Toots and the Maytals (I really don't listen to much 1st Wave)
2nd: the Specials (I really don't listen to much 2nd Wave....just the Specials)
3rd: Five Iron Frenzy and Streetlight Manifesto (hard to choose from all of my faves)
