I've listened to and heard a few songs from Africa before, and I kind of liked it.

I know absolutely nothing about music from that continent except that there's tons of different sub genres because there's so many countries.

Anyone here into it? What are some good artists to check out?

I know nothing. Thanks in advance!

are ya after african influenced tunes? along the lines of the abyssinians, lady blacksmith mambazo. or are you after more tribal sounding tunes?

either way the best bet (what i did when i was getting into work music) was to attack the library & just hire out a heap of cds. the problem with word music is there is so much absolute rubbish floating around. but if you can weed your way through that ya should be sweet mate

we are cured

yeah you're right about the subgenres...though calling them subgenres is a disservice because the term African music is horrible and loosely defined.

but yeah some of the stuff from south africa is great...ladysmith black mambazo is the only artist i am familiar with.

I've been going on iTunes and just listening to some samples and stuff. I guess you just gotta hit the library and start listening till you find something.

Thanks for the suggestions guys/girls.
