Most of you won't believe this is possible, but this album is way better than Brand New. You heard it here first. I recommend "Anthems for a seventeen-year-old girl." And not only is the record great, it will rehabilitate your indie cred if you taken some hits lately. I'm going to see them next week with PGMG for free in NYC.

I'm gonna look for the easy, half-assed way to get this. Does anyone have it to send to me thru AIM? I'll be your best friend...

mcm1610 if you're bored and don't have anything better to do.

Matador is far and away the best independent label. No arguments allowed.

I saw them when they were on tour with Alkaline Trio. It was the vocalist (i forgot her name)'s birthday.

Pretty good band.

I have no clue who you are, but you have a Mineral quote in your sig. So, you'd probably appreciate anything Kevin and I suggest.

When you wrote "Better than Brand New", you made the population of this board collectively cry.

And I loved watching it.

Incidentally, Shampoo Suicide is spectacular.

In one of the dozens of "Brand New is the Greatest Band Ever" threads Iisted this among the albums better than Deja Entendu to come out this year. So I want to claim credit for introducing Broken Social Scene to the board.

"Almost Crimes," another great song of this album.

i downlooaded anthems for a seventeen year old girl. i thought it was ok. i didn't really like the effects on the vocals, its kinda creepy. maybe i'll dl some more and see if the rest is any different.

I will check them out, Kevin. Promise.

I adore PGMG. I saw them with Sleater-Kinney at an NYU-sponsored show last spring and they were great. I think that show was the only good thing I ever received from NYU. :-/

Ah, that's a shame. One of my best friends goes, and I'm there fairly often. Where do you live that you go to the city a lot?

I live in Kansas and Minnesota, nowhere near the city. However, I still go there a lot to see my old NYU friends. I fly when I can get good deals on tickets and crash at the dorms. I must say, I have a lot more fun at NYU now that I don't actually *attend* it.

Preferring good bands to bad ones isn't elitism, it's taste.

How is it music elitism if we're telling people they should download it?

If we were being elite, we'd just bash everyone elses taste and keep our own preferences to ourselves.

And if you're talking about our distaste for the hyping of Brand New...well, can you argue that the CD is insanely overhyped on this board?

the album is pretty hyped, yes. but i genuinely believe it's the best album of the year, so i wouldn't say it's "overhyped."

and i like broken social scene a lot, from what i'm hearing so far. but i can't see myself getting into it as much as a number of other albums that came out this year (brand new, cursive, the postal service).

Brand New is not the album of the year. It may be to 80% of this board, but not to the rest of the world. There are so many other better albums out there.

Also, how could you say Deja Etendu is better than the Ugly Organ? The Cursive album is better than anything Brand New will ever put out. Same with The Postal Service.

And to the guy who said we were being elitists. Reccommending a band that they might not have heard of is not elitism. We are just trying to expose some different music to this board. It's obvious some people liked it.

it's simply a matter of preference. i have to be in a certain mood to really appreciate the ugly organ, whereas i can listen to and appreciate deja entendu any time.

i will submit that the ugly organ is still the best "first listen" album i have ever heard. the first time i heard it, it simply blew me away. but it seems like it has become less and less enjoyable to me with each subsequent listen.

You can't call it the best album of the year, it's only June

But you recognize that it's all opinion, so you're cool. And you show respect to Cursive...just not enough.
