i'm gonna propose this (mostly cause i am busy right now and i think it'll be a great 1st installment if we do this) ...

put our first issue on New Years Day. And every 7 days, we put out a new one. This gives everyone time for a great contribution to a 1st issue, and then we can go weekly from there on out.

try studying 19th century utopian socialists like Saint Simon and Robert Owen and how they laid the groundwork for Karl Marx and what has come to be known as Marxism. ugh.

we could make that part of it. we'll do separate predictions (kind of like a head to head) since i doubt we could agree on it all. but i think we could come up with semi-detailed explanations for our picks. and i think we could compromise on the 12 teams and the exact seeds. the predictions would be the only thing different.

people are too harsh on seattle's run D. statistically, it's right in the middle of the pack...7th in the NFC. It's not good, but people talk about it like it's Indy's run defense or something, when it's not. Seattle gives up 117 yards a game...Indy gives up 176.

It was a good read. I think the race card is a bit overplayed in this situation. The only reason the NBA fights get blown up is because of the whole Pacers/Pistons incident last year. Not to mention fighting is accepted in hockey, so punching someone, while not usually that dirty, is often seen. Plus the NBA is much more popular than hockey.

yep...I agree with you, and I remember when Wilbon brought this up on PTI, he was livid...Dan LeBatard just shut up and let him talk for the 1:15 or whatever because he was fuming about it...

It's a ridiculous double standard...and especially for hockey, who has a history of cheap shots ending players careers, they should crack down on this one hard...
Plus the NBA is much more popular than hockey.
Yep, like, the Indy Car drivers and lower do just as much stupid shit as the NASCAR drivers, but the only way it is ever seen is if someone does something extreme like kick through a windshield, etc.

And I bet the D-League in the NBA has these issues, but since nobody sees a game, who cares...

Yes, but just because it happened in a less covered sport in which fighting is accepted and encouraged, does that make it right? Does that make it less reprehensible than Melo's punch/slap? And the Malice in the Palace did have something to do with it, but I just think that the race part of it is the bigger issue. The NBA is doing their best to cater to a middle aged white male viewer with the dress code and cutting down on the complaining and thuggish attitudes, and when something like that goes down, everyone thinks it's the end of the world.

Nichol hits someone with a sucker punch that, to me, was light years worse than Melo's (complete fist, directly on the jaw, not reaching around players, etc) yet nothing get's said.
Ok...I am amending my article, adding what I feel is a really important statistical breakdown. I also have to deal with Wichita State
That's a joke. the polls are garbage.

And Wilbon's outrage got me thinking about it and I agree with his sentiments on the two sucker punches, whole heartedly.

U rock..Expect me to comment on why the next 2 games for GMU are the biggest of the year and why they can still somehow pull an outside shot at an at large bid.

Maybe...haven't seen their schedule yet honestly...but, it'll be interesting to read none the less.

edit: Their losses aren't bad..they are all close to good teams (either MVC or teams who have pulled an upset, or Duke)

What may help them is great conference play against ODU, VCU, etc...who played well in non-conference

But yeah...I can see your point about their next two games...and if you want, here is an article I wrote about MSU's main guy Jamont Gordon for this thing a while back

Theyll have to figure out a way to contain this guy. I highlighted that in my article that essentially the next 2 games are the season. Drexel has won 5 in a row including wins at Villanova and Syracuse. Even though the games are close (a bunch less than 6 points) it doesnt mean anything unless you win a bunch of games. Mason probably has to win a lot(which I dont see why they couldnt go at least 12-4 13-3..they usually do that) but has a good chance if they can get at least 2-3 solid wins, especially considering they had a rough schedule.

Yeah essentially nobody got a focus but our 3 seniors last year. But watching the DVD and numerous highlights it wasnt even the 3 of them half the time that helped the team win. Campbell and Thomas had huge roles.

that sucks...ask Tate, maybe he'll know why it's acting weird.

But, the more I think of this, the more we need this Hot Corner to come back, because I can't stand reading articles from Yahoo or ESPN anymore...they make no sense. I posted this in the blunders thread, but Dan Wetzel does the biggest flip-flop I've ever seen. One day, he condemns Tony Larrusa for not getting Kenny Rogers kicked out of the game, and the next, he praises him as a man of principles...it's mind boggling.

If anything, the people here at least tend to stick to their arguments, and when they change them, have a logical reason for doing so...

yeah, or just about a sport in general. I know preppyak writes just on college basketball, never focusing always on one team, moreso the SEC and Big 12. And I wrote one on the Melo punch vs. the Scott Nichol sucker punch in the NHL and how race was the main (not the only one, though) factor in why it got so much media coverage.

Haha, I do that because who, besides me, on this site would care enough to read about Kansas each week...heck, I'd probably even stop caring.

But yeah, if your a Lakers fan, write about them and Kobe and their division...if enough people write, we'll have most of the nation sports-wise covered...which is better than ESPN and Yahoo can say.

That's what the problem with ESPN/Yahoo/other big networks is... they have guys who have no knowledge of particular teams trying to cover a sport nationally... so when they give insight on a particular team, it's wrong a lot of the time, making them look like idiots to people in the know.

this is a great idea... who do we send the articles to?

Yeah, I mean, mine usually run around 2 pages double spaced, but, depending on your topic they can be much shorter, or much longer. Best thing to do is just write an article how you want, and unless it's way too long or something you won't get complaints

hahaha...I'll have to scour the stat sheets for some basketball players like that...I know there was a guy who shot like 35% in 2pt FG's, but shot like 55% from 3 point range...and his FT % was like mid-40's.

The stat site I go to said he should just step back and shoot FT's from the 3pt line

the people that were supposed to take care of it failed too...rob carlson took over and did nothing with it. Jaime was going to read everything and put it together as I gave her to template. No deadlines or anything were ever set. There are not enough writers. There isn't a whole lot to write about news story wise because as far as I know, nobody has sources.
