GAD was certainly a disappointment, you are correct Anton.
Less Than Jake would have to be my biggest disappointment. All it sounded to me like was Bowling For Soup with horns. :-( I was expecting another Anthem, and was extremely let down.

May I ask why? I thought it was very stong.
Are you saying it wasn't good, or just disappointing, because it wasn't like their old stuff?

It was the first album in a while that I hadn't heard anything at all from. I don't know what I was expecting... it just didn't click right away, like their other albums.

I liked certain elements of both Louder Now and A City By The Light Divided, but probably only actually enjoy at most half of each CD, which is quite disappointing, as both used to be a couple of my favorite bands, as I think they have been at some point or another for the majority of people on this site heh.

Definitely Gatsbys, no question. Biggest letdown of the year. Simply not a good cd.
The Format, to a certain extent. They were my favorite band, and I wish they hadn't gone in that direction. Still good, but not nearly as good as I&L. It lacked staying power.
I loved TBS in the beginning, but it had no lasting power.
Matchbook Romance was a let down for me. I didn't like their direction either.
My Chemical Romance decreased in quality.
Saves the Day should have been better.
This Day and Age was going to be in my top 3, but it had no lasting power. Songs were too long.

The Who - Endless Wire. I just can't get in to it.
Def. a lot of dissapointments this year:
A.F.I.. Def. would have to be my biggest dissapointment. A good CD but they went completely away from their sound and style so therefore it's still dissapointing.
New Found Glroy. I was really dissapointed with this CD - it just wasn't fun at all!
Thursday. This was dissapointing as well. They'll never be able to make another CD that compares in quality to 'Full Collapse'. Such a shame.
It Dies Today. I know most people here might not like them already, but I'm a fan of them and their new CD was such a let down.
Righteous Jams. What happened to them?
Gatsby's. I would have to agree with alot of people in this thread. It just wasn't anything special at all (especially compared to their really impressive previous releases).
Head Automatica. I loved their debut. This CD was decent, but I don't see myself going back to it all.
Saves the Day. I know a bunch of people loved this CD, but I found it to be pretty weak.
I know there are even more dissapointments this year that I can't even think of right now. Don't get me wrong though, I still feel that 2006 was a really strong year for music.

New Found Glory- like the person said above me, not fun. i enjoyed it a little, but i think it was their weakest cd yet
Head Automatica- first cd was great, this cd was repetative pop. no dancey elements at all. i only liked the first 3 songs.
Dashboard Confessional- boring. i dont think any acoustic songs, and just no stand out tracks. dashboard should be "he", not "they"
Taking Back Sunday- i liked the first few listens, and still listen to it sometimes, but many songs were too repetative and alike for my tastes
Matchbook Romance- the poor man's deja entendu. they tried to become brand new, and failed miserably. monsters is good, and that is it. i loved their first cd, this was just a bad attempt at reinvention. the drummer's brother was even dissapointed.
This Providence- i liked their first cd, and was expected a solid pop album coming out of fueled by ramen. fbr was hyping them like crazy on their site, and so was the bands on the label. aside from a few good songs, it was nothing special.
Underoath- tocs was great, this cd was good, but not one of the best screamo releases of the year. aaron is a great singer, he should sing more and they should go back to tocs style
Yellowcard- ocean avenue is one of my favorite pop albums ever, but this was a lackluster followup, with bad lyrics, bad vocals, and almost no violin.
i liked all of these bands' previous bands, but didnt like the news ones that much

The Killers - just really not a good album
Lacuna Coil - borefest, I wish they would've stayed heavier.
Shaved Goat
12/13/06, 04:58 PM
Alexisonfire- all the guitar work was too straightforward and boring to me. i miss the more complex riffs. Some of the songs were still really good, but i felt it was a step in the wrong direction.
AFI- i liked it, but it should have been better for taking them as long as it did.

DEFINITELTY matchbook... i cant even listen to that pile of shit.. underoath is close behind.... it was a great year for pop punk though, and 2007 might be even better:-D
Gatsbys American Dream - S/T - Loved, no scratch that, adored Volcano, this is like an unmastered jumbled mess
The Matches - Decomposer - Really enjoyed E. Von Dahl, hated this
Hellogoodbye - Zombies, Aliens.... - Really thought the EP was fun, this just flat out sucks
Head Automatica - Popaganda - I built up too much hype for this album, it's mediocre and bland compared to the awesomeness of Decadence
Dashboard Confessional - Dusk & Summer - More like Shit & More Shit
Action Action - An Army... - My sister really loves this band, and their first album isn't too bad, this is besides Smoke & Mirrors, sweet opener

I'm kinda surprised to read that people were dissapointed with the following albums:
Alexisonfire - One of my favorite CD's of the year. I don't think there's one bad track on the entire album.
Underoath - I liked they they started going back towards their heavier side. 'They're Only Chasing Safety' was a great CD, too, but if they had continued to go down that line of becoming poppier they would've eventually started to sound exactly like half of the bands out there.
Matchbook Romance - I am still torn as to which of their full lengths I like better. Both are completely different, but each are really strong in their own respects. Yes they took a huge risk with the change in their sound. But this is one time where I feel that the risk was well worth it. That's why I don't find this CD to be a dissapointment at all.

Norma Jean- They switched their sound up a little bit and it sounded really rushed. Only a few good songs on Redeemer.
He Is Legend- Went a little too soft and some of the instrumental songs on their new cd are pointless.
Alexisonfire- They let the other guitarist sing some and it ruins the whole cd, not to mention this doesn't come close to Accidents.
Deftones- I don't know, this cd seems to sound like a harder Team Sleep. If they added a couple harsher songs this would've been better. Also, no guest vocals next time.
Overall, besides the changes with Underoath (which suprised me in a good way), this year in music sucked. Here's to 2007...

Passenger is one of their best songs. As is Head-Up. Guest vocals work.
biggest album disappointment 2006 was the killers, first one was full of anthems and now they suck. the guy even said-i dont mean to be arrogant but i think this is the best album of the last twenty years...

And Begin To Hope was without the normal Regina Spektor weird unclean moany noises. The ones that were there were really..clean I dont know how to say it. Its funny though because even though The Hold Steady and Regina Spektor were 2 of my biggest let downs theyre also in my top albums this year. I was jsut expecting something else

afi- i liked everything they had up until this album, i even liked sing the sorrow more than their earlier stuff, but this album just sucked
underoath- boring generic "experimental" metalcore.
head automatica- they got rid of everything i liked about the band on this album
hellogoodbye- if you're going to name your cd something sweet like that, you probably should make sure all the music doesn't suck.
but by far the biggest album disappointment of 2006 was finding out that there'd be no more bear vs shark albums.
