ok, I dont understand how a band like Good Charlotte just busts into the mainstream, but a band like The Ataris doesnt. In my opinion The Ataris are much better than Good Charlotte and have been around for a longer time, but still they dont get as big as GC. Anyone else ever wonder this?

hot damn!

And the bands that most people that like "punk music" would agree are some of the best such as Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, and others dont get that big.

mtv exploited Good Charlotte as the next big thing, having them host TRL, getting their own show, overplaying their videos....

whatever mtv says you should like, the majority is going to fall for it head over heals, the majority are like robots, and when the majority likes it everyone is going to jump on the oppurtunity to play it, in example...GOOD CHARLOTTE.... publicity overrules, guys.

and BAM there you have the explanation for half the kids in your school humming the anthem down the hall in their cool new GC wristbands.

its because gc spends more time on their outfits than lyrics, and image is everything, and punk is whats selling at the moment, thus their sudden popularity

and BAM there you have the explanation for half the kids in your school humming the anthem down the hall in their cool new GC wristbands. you are somewhat right, but it's not MTV's fault.

what happens is.. a band signs on to a label. major labels, such as MCA and Interscope, promote the band to the general public. this includes MTV, magizines, commercials on MTV2, songs on the radio, you know.. all of that. they promote the best they can, and the more promoting, the more they get known. IF the MTV watchers, magizine readers, radio listeners enjoy this band, if they "sell".. that enables even MORE promoting. hit singles. videos on TRL. car company sponsered tours.. and more fans. and it just keeps growning. until they fade away.. or change their music for the worse. and thats what happens in the mainstream.

you were right, and wrong. it's not about what MTV says.. it's about how much money the label has to advertise, and to sell to mtv. and BAM there you have the explanation.
