There is just a vibe about their music that makes it impossible to dislike. It rocks yet still manages to be a bit chill at the same time

I'm listening to Pachuca Sunrise, and it's making me happy.
probably one of the best bands in the scene, i probably couldn't even pick out a song of theirs i would deem "bad"

Agreed, although I'm not too fond of the remix album...
I can't wait for their next studio album.

excellent band, and definitely one of my favorites. I'm not such a huge fan of menos el oso, and while I think its a solid release, it lacks an "absinthe party" or "pantsuit, uuggggghhh" track for me, though "the pig war" is pretty close.

Planet of Ice actually ended up as my AOTY. I was pretty blown away from the first listen, and I still listen to this more than probably any other album from '07.
I thought the tone of this album was very differen't for them, and I loved it. It seemed like they were channeling pink floyd for a good chunk of the album, though sticking to their usual technical goodness... Such a cool vibe. I just really enjoy the sound of this album, great quality and downright brilliant as far as the instrumentation goes. Great pacing too, good balance in tempo and dynamics... pretty flawless in my opinion. Not one remotely bad track.
So, obviously, I think fairly highly of it. It really upped my already existant love for this band. great bump.

I wish they were better live. It felt kind of weak when I saw them. Hopefully they'll make up for it at Coachella.

The only acoustics I've heard from them are the ones that they did at the AltPress interview, and i just tacked them on as Bsides to Planet of Ice haha.

New jam sort of. Sounds pretty cool though there don't seem to be many fans of them here anymore. To be honest, I didn't give a shit about Acoustics.

Nah that's one of the best parts of it. Krauty and whatnot.
Woah...you guys didn't like the acoustic EP? I loved it. It made me wish they played with strictly acoustc guitars all the time. I even picked up the vinyl today.

Yes. You should definitely pick it up. I feel like this band doesn't get enough love (judging by the fact that there are only 4 pages of replies). They are fantastic.

I wuv MTB. I haven't listened to them in forever though. I should go re listen to Menos El Oso.
Been listening to the vocalist's old band Sharks Keep Moving lately, the first EP is awesome.
Sharks Keep Moving are exceptional, Jay Clark is really what makes that band, along with Kill Sadie.

03/22/09, 10:10 PM
Yeah I'm a big fan of his, and just all those Seattle bands including Pretty Girls, although Elan Vital was shit.
I couldn't get into that band/album at all, all of his other work though is really, really great.

Oh that's too bad. Their first EP and first two LPs are full of great riffs, really neat. I'm especially fond of The New Romance.
I'll have to check it then, for sure.

I'm not saying this is the case with MtB—I like them—or that it's true about this album—haven't listened—but sometimes calling something a "grower" is just an extension of denial. Or, more directly, poor songwriting on the band's part. Whether I'm listening to the slickest Prefab Sprout pop melody or some skronk/improv/noise courtesy of No-Neck Blues Band or the Hat City Intuitive, I can usually tell quickly whether it speaks to me.

I see what you're saying, and agree that sometimes that's the case (Daisy, anyone?)
But I do think there are some albums that click only after a forced several listens. That's true of some of my favorite albums.
OMNI is fucking sexy.
double yes. It is love.

I was disappointed until about the tenth spin, then I really started to get into it. With all the slower songs on the album I think it could have really benefited from having Broken China thrown somewhere in the mix just to keep the albums energy level up.
I dont think OMNI will grow on me its just a little too soft and sugary.
It's more interesting than the second half of POI though

Does anyone think Jake's vocals sound similar to Brendon from Panic At the Disco in some places? I was listening to both bands today and they sounded very similar to me.
