The Princess, hands down. Even as a child, I knew it was super gay, but the ability to float was more than worth the unnecessary ridicule.

She also had the slowest item pickup, which was a problem vs. bosses and when you got the potion.

Luigi had the best combination of jumping ability and item pickup speed.
