sad. not all preists are child molesters! Baptism is a symbol of rebirth. When I was baptized, I was born again, sinless and innocent.

and Ronin:
I guess most catholics I know are liberal. I go to Catholic school, and aside from the Sisters, the people on the Board are liberal as well. So its a liberal school.

The Catholic church is against abortion, against birth control, against cloning, against homosexual marriage (and homosexuals in general), against pre-marital sex, etc etc

And the Catholic church is sexist, it won't allow female priests.

So as an institution, I'd consider it conservative.

as an institution, yeah, conservative. But Catholicism isn't the Church, its the people. and the people are liberal. This is funny that we are talking about this because a few months ago I was like, "I want to be a unitarian. The Church and I don't agree" and my mom was like Catholicism is the People. Then she pointed out all the people we know who are liberal and catholic, and there is a lot. I don't know too many people who are concerned with whats going on in Rome. My church is liberal too. I like it.

And there are so few men studying for priesthood that eventually, the Church will have to ordain a female.

Do they preach liberal values in your church?

Because in mine, they definitely don't. When I was in grade school, my religion teacher was a fucking idiot who basically tried to scare us into following her moral framework. The limited number of times I've been to my church, I've seen staunchly conservative values.

Maybe I'll switch to yours!

edit: That sounds kind of condescending. I'm actually being serious. It's awesome if your church is liberally oriented

Hmmm...haven't been to church in about half a year. I'm lukewarm episciapalion, borderline deist/agnostic. That church honestly didn't give a shit, as long as you put money in the offering plate.

im completely against organized religion in general. i dont think that people should be preached to. it just seems wrong to me when people tell me what to think and what to believe. I read the Bible and ive read the Quran and i consider myself a buddhist because it is basically about finding god both in yourself and in others. sometimes i go to youth group with a friend and it usually ends in a debate, i guess i just bring out that side in people. i have a lot of catholic friends who went to catholic school for years, it sounds egotistical but i think that i have opened their minds a little bit. now, the most staunchly homophobic actually get to know the person first and listen to my views pro-choice wise, even if they dont totally agree. oh well
