Question: Is there still racism in the world? Do you see it on TV, hear it among people, etc. or has it become extinct. Interesting idea....

Ask our troops overseas fighting in Iraq. Our men and women are being killed by suicide bombers just due to the fact that they're American.
Ask the families of people like Matthew Shephard, who are being killed because of their sexual orientation.
Ask any religious person, minority, or disabled person who has been offended or hurt by an "off color" joke made at their expense.
Racism might not always be obvious and in your face, but it certainly still exists. Sadly, I don't think it will ever completely go away.

If you check the "Lingering Racism" thread and the later discussion on the "Conservatives on AP.net" thread, you can see some real live racists saying really racist things complete with really stupid excuses for why they are being racist!

I would say this probably can't qualify as racism. First off, "American" isn't a race. Secondly, and more importantly, there are strategic military reasons why Americans are killed in Iraq. The motivation is not race - suicide bombers kill fellow Iraqis of various ethnicities, as well as the multi-racial American troops to achieve their goals.
This is not to defend the suicide bombers. You can call them terrorists, sociopaths, barbarians, whatever. I'm a pacifist, and in no way condone what they do. However, it is not really fair to call them racist. That's like saying that American troops are racist because they are trained to kill Iraqis.

Yes, I agree, US soldiers are also killed for strategic military reasons. Maybe I shouldn't have been so specific. Take 9/11 as an example. They came onto OUR turf and took the lives of nearly 3,000 innocent people. They weren't doing this to defend themselves or because we were on their turf killing their people. Why did they do it? Because they have been raised to hate Americans.
I believe that racism begins with a prejudice, such as being taught that Americans are "bad" and you should hate us. It grows and grows until it's to the point where innocent people are being killed simply because of the hatred others have for that specific "type" of human beings.
So since 9/11 was an act of terrorism, I say that it and other 'suicide bomber' type of "events" (for lack of a better word) are strong evidence of racism in today's society. Terrorism is simply taking racism a step further and acting out your hatred in terrible unimaginable ways. Just because Americans aren't a "race" like African Americans or Chinese doesn't mean people of other ethnicities can't equally hate us as they would another group.
Anyway, I'll stop rambling now. I probably didn't make much sense, since it's almost 5:30 am and my brain isn't fully functioning right now. I'm looking forward to reading more responses to this in the morning.
