View Full Version : So I've decided

That I'm going to be begin training for the Chicago Marathon starting January 7th. That gives me 10 months, and I want to be able to finish in 3hrs 10mins or less so I can qualify for Boston in Spring '08. I did the Chicago Half-Marathon last summer and finished in 2hrs 5mins and I only trained for 5 weeks.
Who's gonna lend their support?

also, i should mention that i'm going to be running a bunch of races in the meantime and am going to be gathering pledges for PCRF (http://www.pcrf-kids.com/) (Andrew McMahon's preferred charity)
I've decided it's time to do some good and give something back. And also to motivate myself to achieve something.

Deal - now excuse me while I use a long pole to fetch the remote control without leaving the couch, and then a golf buggy to go get snacks from the fridge.

Yeah...I mean, I'm pretty active and I play sports a lot still, but, I doubt I could finish a marathon, just mentally, after like 10 miles I'd say "fuck it" and stop running.
Good luck though, when is the marathon itself?

My Aunt did this a few months ago. She finished in a little less than 3 1/2 hours. She's insane, runs every day. Good luck!

that's what i thought when i trained for the half marathon last summer. i had never run more than 5 miles and i had 5 weeks to get that up to 13.1. i busted my ass, changed my diet, and somehow was able to do it. i had a few people who were doubting me so i think that helped (the whole disrespect as motivation thing works). this time i have more than 9 months to train (i'm not officially starting training until january 7th though) and the run is october 7th. and then the boston one (if i qualify) is in april of '08.
and to whoever quoted, bolded, and laughed at my statement about gathering pledges to donate to a charity, you're a douche and i shouldn't even dignify you with a response.

i do and basically it's just a massive surge of endorphins running through your body. it feels pretty awesome and basically like you can accomplish anything.
then it fades and you realize how ridiculously fucking exhausted you are
