View Full Version : Selling of the Pens?

I hope that that casino can make a deal with Pittsburgh to get them a new stadium free to the city as long as they allow slot machines.. It's really not too bad a trade at all, it's more income for the city and the company-- AND it keeps the Pens in town for sure.. Thoughts?

A free arena that would not just be used by the Penguins but would be used for numerous other things too. Unfortunately, IOC does not donate money to Rendell and other political PA figures like Forest City/Harrah's do. So basically, the fix has been on for months.

Ok, I see your point. However I think a team would do well in Seattle.
As far as Canada... its likely that only 1-2 Canadian cities would be able to accommodate NHL teams, even with the salary cap and cost certainty.
I do think they need to stop moving teams south... (its only good for football, baseball and NASCAR) However they need to leave the Thrashers, that way I can still go to games.

No they really don't. Did you see who won the license, the casino that Bettis' mom is part owner of. They "agreed" to give 7.5 mil over 30 years for a "multi-purpose" arena, which is basically saying we dont want a hockey team. People don't wear around the jerseys of Crosby and Malkin like they do Ward and Roethlisberger.

Umm and in case you havent noticed, Ward and Roethlisberger are two of the most popular jerseys in all the NFL (well not so much Ben but Ward). "Multi-purpose" arena because they want to show how it brings in other revenues like concerts and shows besides being the home of a hockey team. That was the whole selling point of IOC building a new arena. The attendance is middle of the league which is great considering the team has finished in last place the last 3 or 4 years and plays in the dump that is Mellon Arena. And once again I dont see how the winner of the casino license proves that the fans dont support them. It's the POLITICIANS.

Yea in total which is kind of dependent of arena capacity and judging by the fact the arena is what 45 years old, it doesn't hold much over 17,000. Attendance % is a much more accurate judge and going by that, for a last place team, they are in great shape. But once again, your "intelligent" observations just cant be refuted I guess.

Despite the Penguins' long-standing arena issues, Pittsburgh remains one of the NHL's strongest U.S. markets. The Penguins, who have no NBA team in town to draw away attention and fans, played to 92 percent of arena capacity last season, despite a fourth consecutive last-place finish.

Lemieux's already done SO much for the city, its about time the city pays him back. He gave up 30 million by taking over the team when they went bankrupt. The Pirates AND Steelers both got good deals for new stadiums (especially the Pirates). He doesnt want to own the team forever. He was bascially doing it to keep the team in Pittsburgh and the city hasnt repaid him at all.
