I'm a big fan of utopian/dystopian literature. Another good one besides 1984 is Brave New World. Aldous Huxley was an awesome writer. If you're female, I recommend Herland. Not that this is what the thread is about....but I thought I'd put in my 2 cents.

i love brave new world, i wanted to make my sn somaescape, but someone already had it. stupid readers. have you ever read the giver? its definately along the lines of utopia/dystopia literature. i have read a little herland but it was awhile ago, i think ill go back and re-read, because im a dork and its how i entertain myself.

i can't stand rufio's singer. i can sing better. and i suck at singing. if it wasn't for the singer i would probably love rufio. but the singer makes me want to kill myself.

i read the giver sometime in school. i think maybe 8th grade. it was the only book for school that i ever actually read in my entire grade school career besides catcher in the rye(but that was only because i had already read it).
i took a humanities course my second semester of college on utopias/dystopias and we read some great books. i had never read gullivers travels before this class, but its really good. i think i prefer the books like 1984 and brave new world. theres something about the structure of those civilizations that i am attracted to. i personally believe that everyone should be tempoarily sterilized at birth and there should be some sort of population control. too many stupid people breeding these days....does that sound harsh??

hah that reminds me of "A Modest Proposal" by John Swift .. except the population control he wrote about was for an entirely different reason
