Looks like it's time for another round of the political test. Let's see where all the new guys stand. I'll put everyone on a graph and see the overall layout of the forum. Here's the test. (http://www.politicalcompass.org/)
I attached the graph from last time so you can see where all the older people are.

I am all for small government economically. But I do believe that it is the governments job to protect the people. Criminals should be punished, laws should be followed, the government should enforce. And I am a huge nationalist, not a fascist. Dont twist the results. Nationalism is different that facism. I would fight to the death for my country. I believe in equal rights. I do not believe in head starts, ie. affirmative action. I feel that the public has the right to question the government, however I do not feel that radicals have the right to break the law, cause damage, and endanger the public. I am not a facist.

What if the laws violate basic human rights? Shouldn't anybody be allowed to disobey them then?

You'd think that's a good idea, but who's to decide what's a basic human right? If anybody decided that and then just didn't follow them, there's almost no point to laws at all. If you feel a law violates a basic human right, petition or do something to change it, don't ignore it. If there's a law that says running is illegal, even if its the most retarded law ever, if you break it while its in effect, you still deserve to be punished. A law is a law, do something to change it if you think its wrong.

What if trying to change a law is illegal? Or the law asks me to turn Jews into certain death? What if moving away from the country is against the law? Some of this is extreme, but you make it sound as if the law is right in all cases.
And I think it's fairly accepted that life and liberty are basic human rights.

Today, there really aren't any in the United States unless you count John Ashcroft's agenda which hasn't really been implemented yet, but in the past their have been. Japanese internment camps in the U.S. The undetermined detainment of suspected terrorists in Cuba. Nazi Germany for example. Facist Italy had some crazy ones too. Several religious states in the Middle East have insane laws with insane punishments for violation. The British in India gave Ghandi an reason to be civily disobedient.
The reason I bring this up is that you made it sound like the law is always right? What if it isn't?

Also: Democracy works in a way so that the people indirectly make the laws. Therefore, if the majority of the population feels that a law is unjust, that law won't be around for long. If you feel something is unjust, you're in the minority most of the time.

Unfortunately, the majority doesnt always give a moral consensus on what is just. Democracy does not guarantee justice - in fact, many philsophers have called democracy "a tyranny of a different sort", a state run by the whim of the masses. Slavery existed for over one hundred years, and legally enforced racial injustices like the "Jim Crow" laws stayed in the books until the past half-century. Why? Because the majority favored them. In a democracy, one must be especially wary of a "majoritarian oppression" in which the minorities are subjugated for the benefit of the majority. And that, my friends, is not cool.

A true democratic society like that of old athens would be nice, but that's just not possible with the immense amount of people these days and political ignorance. Anarchy sounds nice.. the same way that communism sounds lovely in ideal form. However given the way masses of people are known to behave they are simply not feasible at the moment.

That is the gospel. Direct democracy would be great except there are too many and too stupid people. Aranchy and communism are unrealistic. Representative democracy is the only way to go! Yes, the people will still elect some stupid people (see: Ted Kennedy), but at least they're somewhat logical.

It doesn't really matter what type of government it is, as long as the citizens reserve the right to civil disobedience, and can revolt if it goes oppressive. Blindly following laws=bad. And a direct democracy is worse than facism. The "tyranny of the majority" would definitley take over. An idela society is one where the minority and majority can co-exist.
