well...no. dylan's lyrics are far and above petty's, although with dylan's voice, i can see why you'd think that.

I had the lyrics to the Greatest Hits album memorized in third grade; I was raised on Petty. "Like" does not describe what I feel for Tom Petty. I don't know that I could put into words what this man and his music means to me... he made me love music.

I had it pre-ordered through iTunes. I wasn't sure what I was expecting, but my first listen was a surprise because it was more like his earlier solo stuff (which makes sense cause it is a solo album). Some people told me they were surprised with how it sounded, but it definitely goes back to some of his earlier stuff, which I enjoyed.

I'm definitely going to try to check out the Highway Companion tour this summer because it's apparently going to be his last. :-(

Anyone who says that Petty is better than Dylan should kill themselves.

you never change a tom petty song...

My dad is a huge Petty fan, and he was listening to a radio interview he did and I don't know if this is common knowledge or not, but apparently the song "I Won't Back Down" was inspired by the time someone tried to kill Petty by burning down his house, but he escaped. He thought it was an accident until the authorities ruled it as arson. Apparently after word spread Petty said he received over 100 phone calls from people all over the US claiming they had been the one who set his house on fire..

Just some trivia.. :-)

I also had no idea Tom Petty wrote a lot of songs for Johnny Cash..

Aww, I don't want to kill myself.

If you enjoy his music more, then you don't have to. If you think he is a better songwriter, then kill yourself.

Petty's great. I like his voice, its kinda raw but not, if that makes sense.
"Last dance with Mary Jane, one more
time to kill the pain." GREAT SONG
