i was just wondering if anyone can point to one postive trend that our system can be credited with (i can't think of one)

thats a pretty subjective question.
it depends on what you consider positive.
in the other thread, you're pushing for more realistic sex and language on public TV. that isnt a positive thing. not to me at least.

i meant more widespread and pervasive trends that effect most everybody, sorry for not being clearer on that.

take it from someone who's edge, it's not as positive as you think. If it were the early days, I'd agree.

in many cases edge is just a militaristic movement for tough guys to have another reason to beat someone's ass, or at the very least, to continue being judgemental pricks.

Haha, I agree completely. But If I had to write about a positive trend, it'd be pretty easy to pick out the good things about the straight edge movement.

Infant Mortality Rates.
Alternative Energy.
Public Transportation.
Medical Science

oh but don't you think technology is increasingly used for profanity and nudity? how can that be good in your eyes?
infant mortality rates are auctually alot higher in this country then they are in others and are not improving here.
where is this alternative energy that everybody is using? last i checked we were still hostage to big oil.
public transportation isn't a trend and it's not improving.
medicine is getting worse with it being taken over by corporations the human element that used to be so prevalent is gone, doctors no longer have the time to get to know their patients and as a result don't always know how bad something is. for example my grandmother had the best medical care available on paper you could get, but none of the doctors knew her, she was a very tough lady who didn't like to complain or impose on anyone, so when she said she was in some pain it meant she was in ALOT of pain, but the doctors who aren't really allowed to get to know their patients anymore didn't know this because all of the humanity is being taken out of medicine because medical care is just another buisness now. the science part i'll grant you is improving but the end result is not.
if you can't have a conversation here without being a asshole that constantly has to put their foot in their mouth find something else to do.

okay how about if i say technology by and large is not really enhancing our daily lives, most people use it mainly for entertainment (which by itself is not a bad thing) but with the amount of it people are getting sitting around and not doing anything but getting fatter (crazy high obesity rates) it's not making things better.
the technology that is being created today is mostly just crap to distract people, and the stuff that is really useful (like medical advances) isn't affordable to a huge amount of the population.

you obviously don't understand what this threads subject is, i'm asking about positive things happening TODAY. past advances in technology have created a better quality of life for all, but again i'm talking about TODAY, and by and large the technology being created TODAY isn't creating a better quality of life for all TODAY.

dail-up isn't so bad, my computer is old, i like my ipod but cd's did the job, and i don't use cell phones..........the technology you mention hasn't really improved quality of life so much as it's just upped the specs on things we use to distract ourselves.
