So, I'm watching the Preview show on TSN right now, and can't tell you how excited I am for this. Possibly my favorite sporting event in the world... I absolutely love watching these guys give it their all. Of course, I'm rooting for Canada, but what about everyone else? Who else is excited for this tourney that's starting on Boxing Day?

Good. He'll be a great defenseman for the Penguins in a few years.
It's a family tradition to watch the World Junior game on Boxing Day here in the TJ household.

Even though I won't see any of the games, I'd like to follow so if anyone that does watch them could update this thread as much as possible, that'd be appreciated.
Good to see 4 CCHA players playing for team USA, including Red Wings draft pick and Michigan State forward Justin Abdelkader. He's seriously going to be a good one for the wings at some point.
Also, Jack Johnson is playing, too. Dude will be a seriously stud in the NHL.
Honestly, how great of a d-pairing is that for the US (potentially...if they play together) of Jack Johnson and Eric Johnson. Both could very well become a top 3 defenseman in the entire NHL.

Absolutely love this event -- a favourite, second only to March Madness.
I actually went to Grand Forks to see the 2005 semi-finals of the World Juniors. It was such a fun time.

that Johnson duo is going to be unreal to watch. both are great players. I can't wait for the USA/Canada game on Wednesday... some good North American hockey with great defence on either side. The Canadian defence looks to be unstoppable this year... i'm just worried about our goalscoring and goaltending.

matchups? Who won? score? Who scored?

Wow. Interesting to say the least.
GERMANY 2 USA 1
BELARUS 4 FINLAND 3
CANADA 2 SWEDEN 0
RUSSIA 3 CZECH REPUBLIC 2
How the USA lost to Germany is beyond me... I saw highlights and there were a few unlucky bounces and a few empty nets missed. The only game I watched was Canada/Sweden, in which Sweden outplayed Canada, but Canadian defence plus great goaltending from Carey Price helped get the win. Hopefully they play better next time. Marchand and Bourdon scored.

USA losing to Canada 4-2.
Darren McLeod
12/27/06, 07:11 PM
yeah, the USA lost to canada. USA was barely there in the first period, but definitely picked it up in the second and third. I'm curious as to why the third USA goal ended up counting in the end... Canada tried to protest and they even had the replay of it on the jumbotron showing the goalie interference, but no dice.

Did not matter, Canada was clearly the better team, USA did it keep in interesting at the end of the second though.

The world juniors is probably my favourite hockey tournament. Maybe because it's on every year. Anyway I love it. Too bad it doesn't get much coverage anywhere else.

In this tournament and things like the Olympics, sure I'd like to see USA win, but I'm not all gung-ho about it. I just want to see great, great international hockey.

Patrick Kane has had a very, very good world juniors for the USA. 8 points in 4 games (4 g, 4 a). Erik Johnson, as well (7 points).
God I wish I could watch this.

Oh my goodness. That was probably the most intense overtime and shootout I've ever watched. I can't believe how good Price was in OT during that penalty kill, or how great Toews was in the shootout. Can't wait for the final.

I didnt have sound here at work so I didnt know what was going on, but that was a scary PK in overtime. I was nervous as hell and it didnt help that everytime Canada scored in the shootout the US would score right after. I dont know if I noticed right but can players shoot more than once in the shootout? I swear I saw jack Johnson shoot twice? I know you cant do that in the NHL but I dont know about International.

after the original 3 shooters, anyone can shoot again in this style of shootout. Johnson shot twice and Mueller thrice for the States. Toews shot 3 times for Canada, and another player shot twice for Canada.

Proud to be Canadian, the boys are playing well as of late, despite stealing their semi-final contest. One of the most entertaining games I've ever watched for the World Juniors ... great hockey.

Best part was the interview with Toews afterwards where he dropped the f-bomb on live TV: "Yeah, we just played a fucking great game."

Frazee played extremely well, a VERY solid goalie, yet I think the Brodeur comparisons are a bit hefty for his play.

Letang was great. Very mature, controlled, and acted beyond his years. Not the best defence on the team and he doesn't do anything flashy, but he gets the job done efficiently and will make a great D in the NHL.
