View Full Version : Panic! for 2007

Panic! at the Disco (http://www.absolutepunk.net/panicatthedisco) will be releasing one more single from their last album. "Build God, Then We'll Talk" will be the final single released because it's the band's favorite song (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1548779/20061222/index.jhtml). The video is apparently very crass (dry humping, extreme drug use) and the band isn't sure it'll even be on MTV. As soon as January hits - the band will be working on their new album and plan to look for "different" producers than anyone expects.

Danny Elfman is amazing -- however, I don't see him producing this band or writing anything for them.

Why'd they insult a great band by taking their lyrics and making a name out of it?

Yeah this could change a lot. This will be an interesting video. Its Panic they will be on MTV they censor whatever they have to. No one teenage girls will let that happen.

Unfortunately a lot of bands do that. Their buds in Fall Out Boy took a famous quote of Tom Waits' and made it into a song title. Who were they trying to build up their street cred with???
And also, the quote "Build God, Then We'll Talk" is not originally from a band. It's a quote in Chuck Palahniuk's Choke. I'm curious to know what band you believe Panic ripped this quote from.
Does Mr. Elfman even produce? It would be great to hear something like that though

Panic At The Disco is a line taken from a Name Taken song called Panic

You are 100% incorrect with everything but the Palahniuk quote. Panic at the discos actual name is ripped from the song Panic by Name Taken. Fall Out Boy took thier name from the simpsons.

I would call GG Allin "extremely crass", but Panic at the Disco? The most crass thing I can imagine them doing is daring each other to drink expired milk on the tour bus.

i think he is refering to the bands name : panic! at the disco, which was taken from a name taken song which was taken from the smiths. dont be a pompous ass before you know what your talking about.

a lot of lyricists steal ideas/lines from authors and other lyricists.
dustin kensrue definitely takes a lot from authors. IE; C.S. Lewis. does everyone hate on him? hopefully not...

"diffrent " aye ? they are probably gonna pull a fall out boy and use babyface, or just blaze or someone. i like that they picked " build god, then we'll talk " though.

It took 3 pages for someone to mention that. I was thinking the exact same thing. They're trying to ride the coat tails of FOB... so I would definately expect them to do something incredibly lame like that... this band is so awful.

Hence the dry humping... and not real humping.
Not really.
I still digg 'em, have since the beginning, even though they've made a bit of a joke of themselves in the past 8 months, and especially with this past tour.

Build God is a good song. I wish they would've done one for I constantly thank god for esteban. I wonder who would make a good record that no one would expect from Panic! I think Danny Elfman might be something that would be an obvious choice for them, but maybe Hoppus. I think hoppus makes amazing records, and he isn't limited to one type of music at all. So it might be interesting if they were to work with him to see what came out.

see i see it otherwise. elfman is a composer by nature, films and even with oingo boingo, things were so over the top, dramatic. that's exactly what panic! is. dramatic, grandiose, flamboyant and excessive. i think it would be a perfect fit.

How easy is it to see that I misunderstood what he was saying? Gosh. I thought he was initially referring to the song title in question. Cut me some slack.
And I was saying that Fall Out Boy's "Champagne for my Real Friends..." is an exact Tom Waits quote that they used for a song title.
So I was 100% right in everything I said. You just thought I was referring to the band names when I was referring to song titles. Re-read my post. I might've not made it clear enough or something. But I am completely correct. I just misunderstood his initial post.

I wrote an article for my university paper bashing the very core of these fuckers based around the values they shit on and the moral implications presented when bands act like they do.

I've never heard people claim that Panic subverts certain moral values. Are you referring to certain ethical ways of behavior regarding being a musician/artist or are you talking about values regarding sex or something?

panic are simply trying to be badass and do something that won't get played to seem cool. they are trying to look like they don't care what other people think.
matter of fact is, that's all they care about.

i'm sure they're a very talented band and can make a lot of good music all by themselves with out any producer at all however, i think not going back w/ matt squire is a mistake. he is most likely the best producer (rick rubin aside) around today. and deff. the best producer for bands from this genre...

Has anyone started taking bets on them leaving FBR before or just after this fabled new album is released? cos i want in on the ground floor of that syndicate....
Smart money says they dont really get to choose their own producer anyway...the label wont let them do anything too far removed from their debut, the formula produces results that are way too good (in monetary terms) to mess with

I'll admit, I'm only anxious to hear their album so I can see how badly their arrogance has gotten, and how much it's gotten into their lyrics and production.
I would lose my huge amount of respect for Elfman if he did this.

I'm pretty sure everyone that was referencing "dryhumping" consider it an act of sex.
Such a good band.
But what the fuck at them and their label.
So fucking stupid that they didn't release "Nails for Breakfast, Tacks for Snacks" as a single.

My favorite too ... this week. It changes. *shrugs* Also it's the only song they don't hate from their debut now so yay for them. I'm really looking forward to the sophomore album if this is the direction their going in. I like musicals and pageantry so I wonder what they'll come up with for the new album. Many folks are gonna want to work with the little guys now. They said they'd like to work with Timbaland in the Kerrang podcast. I'd like to see them collabo with Elfman definately (love that dude's scores) but also Pherrel. I think he's very talented but he just works with people that I find completely barf worthy like Snoop Dogg but that original Kelis album before she was a washed up hoebag? Tops.

lolsz I wanna see it.
it's funny how many people think panic! is so arrogant. look at their ages! shit, guys their age are arrogant bastards! plus, you've got to be arrogant in this business, or else you'll fade away fast.
i can't wait for the BGTWT video and hope to god it's true it won't be shown on mtv until after midnight. the same thing happend ages ago with the madonna video for "Justify My Love." there was such controversy over that video and if you watch it now, it's sooo tame compared to today's standards.
