There was a cop that shot a black lady a while back here in Portland. Here's the story. (http://www.koin.com/webnews/20032/20030505_shooting.shtml) Kendra James, the person who was killed, had a criminal history as long as Webster's dictionary and was well known in the area to be a troublemaker. She started driving off while an officer was in the car. The officer was about to fall out, and he shot and killed her. Yet somehow the liberal betwetters still manager to complain, calling it a racist act. Appearantly minorities should be immune to all forms of police action. Skin color doesn't matter, it's circumstance. There should be a standard for using force, in order to avoid brutality, and yes, sometimes African-Americans are singled out. This specific Portland incident is not one of those times. (Probably, I wasn't there.) As for O.J. Simpson, he was guilty as shit and not targeted for being black. There need to be steps in place to punish police for racism, and at the same time let them do their job.

Lets see.... I'm not saying Kendra James should have gotten off free.... but the cops actions were illogical at best, and innapropriate at worst.

First, her past record and reputation are completely irrelevant. Reputation is subjective, and in a court case only the offense being tried is relevant.

Second, if the officer was "about to fall" he should be hanging on for dear life. How is it that he managed to pull his gun and shoot with accuracy to kill without falling? I mean... he was ABOUT TO FALL right? Apaprently, he only needed one hand and very little cocnentration to hang on.

Third, why the fuck did he shoot the person driving the car? How would that have helped him? If anything it would have INCREASED the threat to his life,as the car would be unmanned and lose control. But he was able to comandeer it fast enough, from his "life-dangering" position?

I think that Mrs. James was an idiot to do what she did. But the cop did not need to kill her in that situation. A stupid person with a car and a stupid person with a gun (two of the most dangerous combinations I can think of) got together and now someone is dead. The moral: Never underestiamte the power of stupid in large numbers. Stupidity kills.

yeah, and it isn't really clear if he was trying to kill her, he may have only shot her to wound her and make her stop, and then she died later of the wound. he could have shot her in the leg for example, rather than the face.

I'm sorry I thought this would be all over the news, but I can't find a god damn link ANYWHERE on the net.... very troubling...

but if anyone was watching CNN on thurdsday, they were playing a tape of a black man being shot in the back by two police officers when all he had in his hand was a silver cell phone.

did anyone else see this? it was all over CNN for like 3 hours straight, and now I can't find a freagin link to save my life.

the guy was pulled over for like a speeding infraction, and these two cops pulled guns on him and pointed them in his face.... he had a silver cell phone in his hand, and I guess they thought it was a gun. You can hear very clearly on the tape him screaming the words "Cell Phone" but the cops didn't listen. As the guy was turning and walking away (this was at a gas station parking lot) both cops opened fire, completely emptying their clips (I think that is 24 shots, rednecks please help me out). Unfortunately their aim wasn't bad enough, because they shot him 8 times in the back....

My question is why the fuck can't I find this anywhere now... and no I wasn't high or drunk.... I saw it on lunch break.

well, i agree with you that no one should be shot for holding a cell phone, and since i haven't seen the footage i assume the cops could have handled it differently. that being said, how many times has someone holding a gun yelled out "Gun" when the cops ask them to drop what they're holding? If you had a gun, you'd probably yell something random like "cell phone", so the fact that he was yelling "cell phone" rather than putting it down is his bad. still doesn't mean he should be shot, though.

if a person holding a gun turns their back, the cops should realize that if the person were to pull the trigger, the bullets wouldn't hit them. He wouldn't be a threat to their lives, and shooting would be unnecessary.

After watching the videos, I can say that the shooting was justified...possibly not 15 shots, but the police had the right to shoot at the suspect. he led the cops on a chase, he's holding an unknown object in his hand, he walks away from the officers, i'm assuming they commanded him to stop and drop the object, he did neither, he instead turned the object towards them, he was shot twice in the arm, still didn't stop, pointed the object again, and was then shot. i never said i agreed with the number of times he was shot, but in my opinion, the cops had a right to shoot him.

I personally agree that the police had the right to shoot him because of hte reasons stated above. If I saw what I think I would've seen as one of the officer's I definately would've considered it killing in self defense. However in NO way is it justified to empty a whole clip on one guy... Thats fucking ridiculous i mean its not like they had to make sure he was dead or anything.

edit: nevermind.. after seeing the video I think I get why all those bullets were required since apparently he didn't stop running until he had 8 bullets in his chest

We are talking about a severely racially divided town, and the shooting death of a black man, by three white police men. yeah, the cops did something wrong. No one in that situation should be shot at, that many times. The department should think of smarter ways to stopping a fleeing suspect.

i exagerated with the parade and all, but they would not be under the scrutiny that the white cops are. in fact if the white community rose up and called the black cops racists for what they did (as did the black community for the white cops) the white community would be labeled KKK land by the media. they would get some poor black woman to yell and cry into the camera about how her husband works so hard to provide for his family, and he doesnt deserve to lose his job over something like this, and all will be forgiven

are you blind! you are so naive! do you watch the news at all! the media spins stuff so bad. like remember that dude who crashed his bike in a high speed chase after running from the cops? the guy on the bike happened to be black the cops white. he was breaking the law, and he died, the cops didnt even have to pull a trigger once. the "black community" was up in arms. the media pulled out a bunch of family and friends of the perp to give sob stories on how great of a friend he was. then they held riots, violent riots. and the media again said it was the fault of the cops....sound fair?

That simply would not happen. I'm not naive, and I'm not blind. I read the newspapers everyday. I'm quite aware of the media trying to sensationalize things. But, I repeat, in the situation you have imagined, the cops would not be exempt from criticism or other consequences. Its stupid of you to think otherwise.

yeah, and what about that cop out in california who pulled a guy over for a routine traffic stop and the dude in the car shot him in the face and killed him....that is why cops don't fuck around if they think you have a gun, that is why when a cop tells you to put down whatever you are holding you do...

he didn't come at them. he was running away from them.
and did you look at those stills of the event happening? at one point, the black guy, holding his cell phone out, is grabbed by the police man, the police man has his gun to the black guy's head. And the two men even face each other. Now, if the police man really felt threatened, don't you think he would have shot him right there? And wouldn't you think that , if a person had a gun and was going to shoot, they would have just shot you?

and I think they were close enough to the guy to be able to shoot the arm that had the hand that was holding the object.
