Okay, so it was about seven in the morning and I went with my mom to Dunkin Donuts, just for shits and giggles, right?
Then she starts talking. And I start thinking.
She mentions my grandmother, who I haven't seen since I was six months old.
That was quite a while back.
I haven't seen her in so long because she got my parents thrown in jail for something that they didn't do and I almost had to be adopted by another family.
So I told my mom I wanted to meet her.
We drove and drove and I finally get to her house.
She cried when she saw me, told me how I've grown( duh, you last saw me at SIX MONTHS OLD), and said that she is sorry.
Should I accept? I don't even know the lady!
But she wants to introduce me to the tons of family that I have never met becuase of all the years of not talking.
Advice?

do it.

12/29/06, 09:38 AM
Why, though? Why should I forgive her?
What did she ever do for me?
Judge'sDaughter

Nothing.

shut up and do it.
... you make a compelling arguement.
Yet I am not convinced.
I am leaning towards forgiveness. After all, she is my blood.
But really, how can I?

it's water under the bridge, just let it go. i don't know how old you are, but that was so long ago, there's no point in holding grudges and you'll probably end up regretting it later on in life if you don't. i've gone through the same thing with family before and you know what, if you decide after getting to know them and forgiving them that they aren't the kind of people you want to be involved with it's not that hard to remove yourself from the situation.

You at least have to consider forgiveness at this point

seriously, just do it. if you're not going to forgive her, then you're being selfish.

She gave birth to your mother. So without her you wouldn't be alive. Forgive her.

You keep contradicting everything everyone is telling you. If someone says "do it" you give a reason not to, if someone tells you "don't do it" you give a reason to do it. At least meet the rest of the family so when you're 22 years old and drunk at a bar, you don't go home with your cousin at the end of the night.

honestly, my grandmother cut me out of her life for 8 years. and ya know, what? had i not reconciled, i would have regretted it.
suck it up and do it. believe me, the awkwardness goes away and you have just as much chance of meeting people you will love as getting screwed over. and if you dont like it, theres no reason to talk to them ever again. trust me, you will regret it if you dont

Yeah, you probably should stay far away from her and the rest of your family. Things will be more hilarious that way.
But Melissa is right. Either shit or get off the pot. Make a decision.

Make her buy you presents for each birthday and christmas she missed. If she says no, give her a guilt trip about how she ruined your life.

you've survived this long without her.
if you feel like forgiving her, forgive her. if you don't, don't.
really nothing anybody else can say. it's a decision you need to make on your own. everybody's different.
one thing to consider though, has she tried to see you? has she tried to get a hold of your parents and be a part of your life? or does she just want forgiveness because you came to her?

Don't forgive that bitch, hug your grudge tight to the chest OR put aside your differences and become closer with her and then a few years down the line, throw the bitch in the fucking home.

You're the only one who can make the call on an issue like this. If you feel like she deserves to be forgiven and given another chance having a relationship with you, then go ahead and forgive her. But if you feel that she doesn't deserve having a relationship with you, then just continue on with your life. No one else knows your family history or the problem you went through, so there isn't much you can gain from asking people you don't even know on the internet.

Only Mark is allowed to give that as a response.
