you can start by dying, then proceed by going to hell, and um... burn there for all of eternity?
yep. that should do it.

indeed. the "we need new threads" thread was pretty bad. but this was up there. i dont actually think punk is dead. thanks to bushie, bands like 'the suicide machines' and 'nofx' are really stepping up the frocity of their political lyrics.

i really liked both of the bands' new albums. 'War On Errorism' was great, and so was 'a match and some gasoline'. 'your silence' is one of the best political songs I've heard since RATM.

I've always hated nofx, and war on errorism just wasnt the one to convince me to change my opinions. Half of what they have to say is bullshit anyways...they get annoying real fast.
The suicide machines album, I thought, was just really disappointing...the songs are way too short for starters...

So just because I like no use means I have to like nofx too?

Really, even the punk god Greg Grafiin could not persuade you?
You are a lost cause.
punk isn't dead, music is dead, our generation is dead. everyone today is too descencitized to reality by computers, tv, and video games to do anything worth while. there's no such thing as actual socialogical change anymore, people would rather sit on their ass and watch MTV, the station that killed music, no one has anything to say any more because of this pop-culture icon that seems to be worshipped as a god. now instead of actually thinking independently, everyone just wears a blank stare and watches a screen.
there was the hippy movement, the punk movement, then a whole lotta nothing.
the word "punk" is a kinda offsetting name to me, as it has had too many meanings. the original being a 16th century french whore. but no matter what the meaning, it was usually used to describe the lower class or inferior beings. "he's just a punk, etc" the name "punk rock" came around when these "punks" invented their own musical genre which also shared the name of the movement.
the movement and the genre are two different things, though this often goes overlooked. (ex) the hippie movement didn't have "hippie rock" they had "classic rock" or "rock 'n' roll" becuase the music is nothing more than the soundtrack to the movement. as jimmi hendrix was the soundtrack to the hippie movement, the dead kennedys were the soundtrack to the "punk" movement.
the hippie movement didn't die, as the spirit of it was carried on in the punk movement, which was so for almost any cultivation of people seaking socialogical change preceding the hippie movement. the only thing dead is our generation

well that would be nice, but what resedue left from the punk movement is too caught up in "i can be punker than you" to care about anything else. punk used to be about fighting the system, now everyone's too busy fighting each other.

Swinger, punk, hippy, rebel, whatever you call it, the spirit is still alive in some people. It's not about the music or the clothes or the bitching about who's "more punk". It's about resisting oppression, fighting the system. Unfortunately, complacents like to declare "punk is dead" in an attempt to quash the spirit of the social movement, but as long as oppression is going on, there will be punk or something similar to resist.

Punk is dead. What was once a mass movement of disillusioned youth rebelling against the government, their parents, pop culture, and just about anything that ended in an "ism" has become apathetic parental aproved pop-culture. The capitalist system, which punks hated with a firey passion has been welcomed with open arms. Even bands like the Ramones or the Buzzcocks, who were never really political still rebelled against what was concidered to be "good" music and accpetbal lyrical content (the ramones had songs like "now I wanna sniff some glue, and the buzzcokcs had songs like "orgasm addict") The first time a romones song was played on the radio, the DJ yanked it of half way through callingi the worst thing he had ever heard, and now his death is being exploited by the comercial DJ's who would have never even touched his stuff when he was alive. Punk has become nothing more then a corpret tool to be exploit by capitalists to exploit. The very thing it was against. Don't get me wrong. There are alot of great punk bands out there that are still liveing the origonal punk spirit, and I concider myself to be a punk. But as a movement punk is dead. I do feel however that we can revive it.
