The DD3 is a great thing. I'm slightly more preferable to the DD6 due to it's longer delay cache and reverse option. However IMO is the best delay pedal out there to start with.
OC2 or OC3 octavers by Boss are both very cool pedals. They add an octave below what you're playing or two octaves below what you're playing. Can work for heavy riffing or electronica inspired riffing. Also very funky. Probably my favorite effect after delay. The OC2 is harder to find as it's discontinued but very straight forward. Two volumes for each octave. The OC3 is a lot more versatile, it has two octaves volume along with a Fuzz mode which blends with the octave and a polyphonic mode where certain strings will have the octave placed onto them (great for finger picking kind of stuff).
What kind of distortion pedal are you using? Because distortion pedals can be absolutely beautiful things yet most of the world lives in ignorant bliss happy to use their Ibanez Tone-Lok series when there are vintage tubescreamers, DS1's, rats, hot cakes, big muff PIs and a raft of other brilliant distortion pedals.
Parametric EQ is possibly one of the most underated and unknown effects out. A parametric EQ takes a certain frequency and then you can boost it or cut it. It's an awesome effect if you want to bust out the nastiest, heaviest riffs in your head or just completely change the vibe of your tone. The only PEQ pedal i've seen is the Boss one though there are plenty of companies that make standard EQ pedals which can emulate the same effect.
Electro Harmonix Memory Man is very cool. It's a big pedal with delay, echo and chorus built in. The delay sounds almost like a tape delay, very awesome. Only 500ms which may be an issue (the DD3 is 800ms) of delay.
There's a million other potential pedals out there too, i'll let Patrick share some love about them.

im using the Boss distortion/overdrive combo pedal. the OS2, its great, though id love the boss tubescreamer. ive always wanted to try an octave pedal, so that might end up being my next buy (the oc3), i have a danelectro pepporoni phaser, though id love to find a better one (the phase shifter looks like a good one) but i'll probebly get the OC3 next

I also have a DD-3 and I'm satisfied with it.
I would've gotten the DD-6 but I didn't have the money when I needed a delay pedal.

I love my DD-20... I may even get another to get the "where the streets have no name" thick delay sound. Couple this with my tele and ts9 and I get an amazing tone.

The 20 is also rad. It sucks out quite a lot of tone is really the only negative thing about it.

Can't say I've had that problem.

I had the DD3 and the DD6, and i'm currently on the Line 6 Dl-4... I'm favoring the hell out of the DL4 because i feel like the sounds arn't just great, but they innovate me to try to come up with new sounds.

Eh not Tubescreamer. That's a registered trademark of Ibanez and Maxom (the original developers of the tubescreamer).
