Stupid Wii question

Im trying to play Madden with two remotes, how do I activate the second remote? I tried pressing 1 and 2 at the same time and that did nothing. I even activated the second remote at the home menu before starting the game, help guys

try pressing the red button behind the flap on the front of the console and then pressing the red button on the 2nd remote where the batteries are. it will reset everything.

open front flap where sd card is. hit red button, then hit button on the remote under the batter cover
