The Starting Line (www.absolutepunk.net/thestartingline) will be spending January in a Hollywood studio recording the follow-up to Based On A True Story with Howard Benson (Head Automatica, All-American Rejects, My Chemical Romance, Saosin, Relient K). FYI, the band is heading in with 15+ demos.

I honestly can't see this album as a huge flop,
I think the label is going to push them into a poppier sound but encourage to keep their artistic values and i honestly love all of Bensons work the sound he gets in his studio off everything from vocals to drums is solid. I think he is going to make Ken shine on the mic.....can't wait

Didn't they record Based On a True Story with Benson as well?He did two songs on Based on a True Story. Bedroom Talk and The World. The ones that Geffen thought needed a more radio-ready spin...

Benson makes things sound awesome, no doubt. I'm excited to hear what this sounds like ... TSL have made two albums -- one was kind of "eh" for me (Say It Like You Mean It) and the other one made my Top 10 for that year (BOATS). I hope they don't backtrack on this one.

The only version of TO'H's "the world" I heard was on purevolume and I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the BOATS version, but thats just me & perhaps the PV version was only a demo?
I don't think the label will "push" them into a particular direction. TSL has kept saying that the label likes where they are going and not pushing them to spit out SILYM part II or sound like "x" band.
I've heard only 4 new songs (at concerts) and I am really excited about the direction(s) they are headed.
GO TSL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TSL + Howard Benson =

I've loved what I've heard from the new songs so far with "Direction," "Somebody's Gonna Miss Us," and "Do You Need To Love?" I'm hoping they push TSL in the same manner as 30 Seconds to Mars and Red Jumpsuit Apparatus because these guys could be huge.

why only mention the 2 albums? Why is there no love for the acoustic ep? Make Yourself at Home was great. I hope they incorporate some acoustic into this new cd.

I don't think this band can disappoint me. It's the same with SoCo (or jacks) everything they have released I like.

I see good times ahead.

(also technically there was the s/t and with hopes of starting over)

Yeah, I think the acoustic EP was one of their best. I'm excited for this.

Everyone's working with Benson now, and he definitely has a very distinct sound. I'm wondering when bands are gonna start taking steps to sound different than other bands he's produced, while working with him

ehh... i'm having my doubts about this record. I'm really excited to hear they started recording their new album but on the other hand i just dont want to be let down since i'm really not a fan of this mature pop punk sound with keys in it. I want to hear a starting line record, not another new found glory comming home which i may add i absolutley enjoyed but like i said i really dont like the keys.

I think "The World" was better without the shouting in the chorus and the instrumental. It could have been a fun single, I think, if they went with O'Heir's version, and if Geffen didn't blow ass.

I am going to have to disagree. Anyways it sounds like Benson does crack or something because he seems like he's always recording a band. Busy busy busy.

Did I meantion I cannot wait for this to come out? SILYMI was one of my favorite records at the time that it came out, and then BOATS made me a starting line fan for life. I'll support whatever they do.

I wasnt a fan of his vocals in Based on a True Story. I'm really excited to hear this record because they put out one of my all time favorites Say it Like You Mean It. Based on a True Story only really had 3 or 4 good songs IMO (Suprise, Suprise. Stay Where I Can See You, Autography, The World) Some people really loved Based On A True Story, I just never got into it. I still love this band and am excited by this news.

People seem to either love BOATS or dislike it. I thought it was a great release and I was glad not to hear a "part II" of SILYMI. The band went through some tough times/drama w/the label and it shows in the songs/mood of BOATS.
They could have played it "safe" and given us more of the same but then you would have some people complain about that..dammed if you do..dammed if you don't.
I do notice how at TSL concerts a lot of people only really know SILYMI songs/get really excited for these as opposed to BOATS songs.
BOATS had a really really short self life. It came out in May '05 and by year end they were talking about a new cd already...it never got a chance thanks to Geffen. Anyone know how many copise BOATS sold? I think it moved like 45k in the first week no? SILYMI did +300,000k right?
I hope TSL gets the proper credit/support for the next release, these guys are talented as fauk.
