I've been really interested in finding it all out and stuff. If you ask me, I don't think it will because the world was supposed end a bunch of times before and it hasn't but saying that the world is going to end in 5 years is a good excuse for things.

Hahaha. One time I put a cockroach in a microwave for a minute and a half and when it was done, it still crawled out fine. God damn cockroaches. In 2012, those are the fuckers who are going to end the world - they're gonna take it over.

Not for a while. It's going to take a bit for global warming to fuck us over completely, and the sun is supposed to continuing working normally for another billion years or so. So unless some random astroid crashes into the Earth, we're fine. ;-)

because the end of the world is predicted by just about every society at the turn of almost every century and it NEVER happens. everything scientific i've seen says we don't have to worry about the end of the earth for another 3 billion years or so. but, then again, the way the human race is going now, we'll probably all kill each other before then. people suck.

Here, taken from Wikipedia:

This is confirmed by a date from Palenque (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palenque), which projects forward in time to 1.0.0.0.0.0, which will occur on October 13 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/October_13), 4772 (a Friday). The Classic Period Maya likely did not believe that the end of this age would occur in 2012. According to the Maya, there will be a baktun (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baktun) ending in 2012, a significant event being the end of a 13th 400 year period, but not the end of the world.

How do you know? You weren't there. It could mean absolutely anything. How many other civilizations have predicted the same thing about years that have already passed? Something has to happen to the Earth for it to end. Something with a process. I think if there was an astroid of some sort scheduled to hit in 2012, it would be pretty known information, as scientists are able to track them pretty early on. I think you're a bit offbase with a lot of the things in this paragraph. I mean, I certainly don't know everything about the mayans, and I'd be the biggest retard in the world to tell you I do, but I think you're overlooking a lot of key stuff here.

Like what? You tell me what I'm overlooking. I don't think you're looking at this closely enough. How do you expect it all to end? You think some huge astroid is going to pop up out of absolute nowhere and just bang into the planet instantly, killing us all? Give science a little more credit here. If it was that obvious, more people would know about it and it wouldn't just be a theory. But as we stand, there is nothing like that.

The fact that it ends in 2012 means nothing, it just means that the calendar starts over again at the beginning because their calendar corresponds to earth location in space and it's just a cycle that repeats itself. I don't know why people suddenly assume this means 'the end'.

They're calendar doesn't just end. The numbers and shit they used are supposed to mean "a change of times", where the world enters into some new phase. According to them, we are living in the 5th phase of the world or something.

I'm half Mexican, and I learned the hard way not to drink tap water :-(

True story, my cousin from Mexico was visiting once, and I was using the tap water to brush my teeth and he freaked out and was like "YOU CAN'T DRINK THE TAP WATER!" hahaha good times.
This does not make sense to me. Most Mexicans that live in Mexico are able to drink the water because their body and immune systems have adapted to the chemicals, parasites, etc. carried in the water.

From what I know, have heard, read on the Mayan calendar there are a couple prominent views. The first being that December of 2012 around the time the annual solstice takes place marks the end of the world. I have read that because of a specific lining of bodies in the galaxy it will cause some type of chaotic thing to happen on Earth whether it be through disruption of weather patterns or the loss of our magnetic field. I have also read what is on Wikipedia, and heard that part of the Mayan calendar was lost in the burning of the Mayans written achievements by the Catholics. Which just says that December 2012 marks the beginning of a new era for the human world. Here is a pretty interesting paper on the issue:

http://www.levity.com/eschaton/Why2012.html

The asteroid "1999 AN10" is supposed to make a pass near Earth (closes ever) around 2026-2027 and depending on its position and what effect the Earths gravity has on it, it could be essentially slung-shot around in a new path that could land it on a course for Earth. Here is a nice chart of Current Impact Risks put out by NASA:

2. They feel no fear, why should you?
3. Use your head: cut off theirs.
4. Blades don't need reloading.
5. Ideal protection = tight clothes, short hair.
6. Get up the staircase, then destroy it.
7. Get out of the car, get onto the bike.
8. Keep moving, keep low, keep quiet, keep alert!

the mayans predicted that because it will be the end of the 13th calender cycle. 13. it's an unlucky number.

Apocalyptic beliefs about 2012
2012 is sometimes claimed to be a year of spiritual transformation (or apocalypse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apocalypse)). Many esoteric sources interpret the completion of the thirteenth B'ak'tun (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baktun) cycle in the Long Count (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maya_Long_Count_Calendar) of the Maya calendar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maya_calendar) (which occurs on December 21 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/December_21) by the most widely held correlation) to mean there will be a major change in world order, although there is a distinct lack of evidence from the extant records of the pre-Columbian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre-Columbian) Maya civilization (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maya_civilization) that they themselves considered this occurrence in 2012 would signify the end of the world (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/End_of_the_world).
Accordingly, several eclectic authors claim that a major, world-changing event will take place in 2012:

The 1995 book The Mayan Prophecies (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Mayan_Prophecie s&action=edit) linked the Maya calendar with long-period sunspot cycles.
The book 2012:Mayan Year of Destiny (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2012:Mayan_Year_of_ Destiny&action=edit) claims the Maya may have been instructed in their wisdom by discarnate entities from Orion and the Pleiades. Contact was maintained through shamanic rituals conducted in accordance with the movements of planets and stars.
The 1997 book The Bible Code (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bible_Code) claims that, according to certain algorithms of the Bible code (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bible_code), a meteor, asteroid or comet will collide with the Earth.
The book The Nostradamus Code speaks of a series of natural disasters caused by a comet (possibly as above) which will allow the third anti-christ to disperse his troops around the globe under the guise of aid in preparation for a nuclear war.
The book The Orion Prophecy claims that the Earth's magnetic field (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth%27s_magnetic_field) will reverse.
The 2006 book 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl by Daniel Pinchbeck (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Pinchbeck) discusses theories of a possible global awakening to psychic connection by the year 2012, creating a Noosphere (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noosphere). It also discusses many other aspects of the 2012 phenomenon from a neutral perspective. Other prophecies and apopolyptic writings and hypotheses for this year include:

Terence McKenna (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terence_McKenna)'s mathematical novelty theory (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novelty_theory) predicts a point of singularity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singularity) in which humankind will go through a great shift in consciousness.
The Prophecy of the Popes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prophecy_of_the_Popes), attributed to Saint Malachy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Malachy), speculated that Pope Benedict XVI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Benedict_XVI) would reign during the beginning of the tribulation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tribulation) of which Jesus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus) spoke, and sometime later a future pope described in the prophecy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prophecy) as "Peter the Roman", the last in this prophetic list, would appear, bringing as a result the destruction of the city of Rome (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rome) and the Last Judgement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_Judgement).
Many new age (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_age) spiritualists and philosophers ("new-agers") believe humankind will enter an age of enlightenment in 2012.[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citing_sources)] There are a range of varying, generally positive, beliefs shared by a subset of spiritualists from the mundane to exceptional -- including a positive social shift and age of peace, mankind becoming psychic and connected by a collective, and/or an evolution of the human race into non-corporeal beings made of "spiritual" energy, or light energy.[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citing_sources)] An alternative view is that we are already thought-forms (see also idealism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idealism)) and will be realizing our true selves in this year.[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citing_sources)]
Some alien-enthusiasts, along with some new-agers, believe 2012 to correspond approximately with the return of alien "watchers" or "caretakers" who might have helped the first human civilizations with developing their technology and may have been waiting for us to reach a higher level of technological and/or social advancement.[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citing_sources)] Beliefs range from the extra-terrestrials having benevolent purposes -- such as to help human society evolve -- to malevolent purposes -- such as enslavement of mankind and/or manipulation.[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citing_sources)]
The ascetic Buddhist monk Ram Bahadur Bomjon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ram_Bahadur_Bomjon) reportedly told his followers that he will return around 2012.
Some proponents of a peak oil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peak_oil) catastrophe place major events in 2012. Richard C. Duncan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_C._Duncan)'s book The Peak of World Oil Production and the Road To The Olduvai Gorge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olduvai_theory) claims that the Olduvai cliff (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olduvai_cliff) will begin and permanent blackouts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackout) will occur worldwide. Several studies predict a peak in oil production in or around 2012. Self-proclaimed time traveller John Titor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Titor) predicts that a catastrophic event "similar to the parting of the Red Sea" will occur.

Wow, that's amazing.
Maybe it will end and maybe it won't, whatever happens, I doubt I'll prepare. Hahah.
You can't really prepare for something like that... can you?

this just proves that Wikipedia cannot be trusted.
I've read up on some of this 2012 business and it seems really interesting, and some parties even say that there is scientific evidence to back up their reasoning (such as the polarity of the sun reversing around 2001 and switching back around 2012), but really it is all based around the Mayan calendar, which, for all we know, could have merely been hypothetical.
It's easy to look back on their predictions and apply it to things that have happened in the world, but that is merely because their "predictions" are so general that they could apply to nearly any significant event that affects peoples' lives.

The title of this forum should read: "Is the world going to end in 2012?" If you want to have the "on" in there then I suggest adding the date it is supposed to end. I didn't read anything, but I assume you are referring to December 12, 2012. Actually, it might be December 21, 2012. Either way. I hate grammar errors.
