View Full Version : Blender's 25 Reasons To Be Excited for 2007
Melissa Johnson

Blender Magazine (http://www.blender.com) claims that these 25 musical acts are the best reasons to be excited (http://www.blender.com/guide/articles.aspx?id=2388) for new music in 2007. Agree? Disagree? Which acts do you think are the reasons to get excited for in 2007?

yeah they did a pretty good job with this list...i am most definitly looking forward to new TAI and FOB, as well as seeing how well lily allen does here in the us. that cd is just good. and the amerie mixtapes are pretty sick too. and i wont lie, im wondering what linkin park's new one is gonna come out sounding like.

Also, why does Nicole Scherzinger need a solo album when PCD was pretty much just a solo album for her?

It's definitely a little deceptive. The sound is all poppy, but the lyrics can be pretty dark and gritty. Browse some torrent sites and you'll find it.

untrue. this band is always relevant.
only ones i agreed with on that list are modest mouse, the shins, fall out boy, saigon, and three 6. people like kelly clarkson arent going to make 2007.

The Academy is is supposed to make me excited for music? Are you fucking serious?
With that said, Bloc Party makes me excited
Modest Mouse, Bloc Party, The Shins, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah are all going to be good I think, but I have a feeling all will be letdowns from previous albums. The Shins are in every magazine and being hyped beyond belief, and as much as I love them, I'm wary about what's going to happen with them. The most exciting album coming out this year I think we be Explosions in the Sky.

T-H-R-I-C-E!!!
Dustin and the boys can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned... and the new quadruple 4-Elements album sounds insanely promising... couldn't be more excited for that one.
Oh, and I'm looking forward to hearing the new one from Avril Lavigne... I know, burn me alive!

PS: it doesn't hurt that Hayley and the DuPree sisters are extremely easy on the eyes either!
was surprised to see TAI on there
kind of happy to hear that Linkin Park was making something new too...

I too am surprised @ the lack of Bright Eyes on this list. Blender use to seem like the perfect receptacle for all of Conor's bodily fluids, but perhaps the tide has turned. They're obviously trying only reference great-selling indie acts, or easily accessible ones. People will know Modest Mouse 10 to 1 over Bright Eyes, especially here in the midwest where I'm from. Personally, I'm looking for that New Birght Eyes album, as well as The ATARIS, Jimmy Eat World, fob, and freakin BAYSIDE!

many problems with this...
>nichol from the PCD..man that computer can sing
>fountains of wayne.. staceys mom didnt help them, so nothing can
>Courtney love...needs more money for heroine
>Fall out boy..i used to be a fan..now they just make their music for 11teen year olds who have "real" problems, they piced Babyface to produce their alubm bc he's done records they like..like Jossey and the pussycats.. case and point!
>Maroon5...havent heard from them in awhile..but i guess every 35+ mothers have on the easylistening radio stations across the nation
>Chamillianer..or however you spell his name..his songs pretty much say it all
>Likin park..i guess..if the lead singer was FORCED to make this album bc his divorce left him broke..i can tell these songs are really gonna come from the heart..& go right into his bank account
so pretty much i think this is the best...i mean it cant get anyworse then last year right?

That's a pretty nice list. I like a ton of the stuff on it, but I'm definately most excited to see Lily Allen at number one. She's incredible, and I really hope the album makes waves when it drops stateside.

What I'm excited for:
Bloc Party
The Good, the Bad and the Queen
Maroon 5
Fuck that website. Here's the list of artists for anyone that doesn't want to press NEXT 24 fucking times (trust me, it's not worth it):
25. Modest Mouse
24. Saigon
23. Fountains Of Wayne
22. Arctic Monkeys
21. Nicole Scherzinger
20. The Academy Is
19. Amerie
18. Kaiser Chiefs
17. Avril Lavigne
16. Kelly Clarkson
15. Bloc Party
14. Courtney Love
13. Fall Out Boy
12. Mika
11. The Good, The Bad, And The Queen
10. Joss Stone
9. James Morrison
8. Three 6 Mafia
7. The Shins
6. Maroon 5
5. Rich Boy
4. Chamillionaire
3. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
2. Linkin Park
1. Lily Allen
...and absolutely none of those make me excited for 2007. There's albums in there I'm looking forward to, but this list just reeks of early promotion for a lot of major label albums.
i'm looking foward to emanuel, circa survive, and the starting line above all. i have mixed expectations about fall out boy and tai.
Lily Allen's album is amazing. It's definitely going to be one of my favorites of '07.
I cant get past lily Allen's chav image to give the album a fair listen. I know that's my flaw not hers, but I just cant.
I mean she even has a pet bull mastiff... all she is lacking are those jeweled clown necklace things from argos..
Anyway, personally Motion City's new album is the thing i am most looking forward to...
Hegemon
01/05/07, 08:36 AM
I'm looking forward to Anberlin and Bayside.
And of course FOB, but they're already on the list.

what I don't understand about these lists, even the absolutepunk anticipations for 2007 is how can they not include one of the most important bands of our era...
RADIOHEAD! they're new album should be coming out this year, and posssibly their last....how can everyone overlook something as big as that? it's defenetly going to be the album of the year for 2007 as well
also Sigur Ros? they are currently in the studio....though I'm not sure if they're aiming for 2007 or not...
Wilco should DEFENETLY be on there, every album they have ever recorded has been AMAZING and I'm sure this next one will be as well.
Explosions in the Sky? their new album is fantastic
(though i understand why magazines wont include this) but Silver Mt. Zion? if anyone has seen them recenetly and have heard the song "Blind Blind Blind" it is reason enough to anticipate their next album
I'm sure Death Cab For Cutie is probably going to record correct? I hope so...if not i'm crossing my fingers for The Postal Service though it's not likely
but I agree with the previous posts that Jimmy Eat World and Bright Eyes should be on the list as well.

I need to give her a listen. I've heard positive things but haven't listened to her yet.
in a way her album is similar to the formats' dog probloms, in which her music is really upbeat and 'fun' i guess, but her lyrics are rather dark and sadistic

wait wait, Fountains of Wayne has 4 albums?
i've got: Welcome Interstae Managers, Out-Of-State Plates (a b-side album, or does that count as an 'album'?), their self-titled, and Utopia Parkway
do they have another record?
they're as far as I've gotten....1/3 bands I'm interested in...so it's 'ok' so far for me hahaha

this list is completely "iffy"! i say mayhaps the good, the bad, and the queen, modest mouse, shins, and the academy is! the remainder of that list is sub par!
by the by... fall out boy? are you fucking kidding (i just had that "misheard lyrics" video pop in my head. "its not a city, its a golfcart, assface!" brilliant.). honestly, i have nothing against the band, but there are so many better bands that could be on there. ya know? does avril still sing? is it good? i haven't heard her since she was underage and a hypocrite (she is gorgeous though, and stellar vocals, from what i can remember)! is courtney still alive?
what the crap is up with this list. who is writing this, i bet its some old executive who thinks that he is "in the know"!

100% disagree with almost all of them. maybe two of the ones they mentioned im looking forward to, but not anywhere close.

I dislike all of the ignorant people who just hate any other music out there that isn't scene/or in the variety they prefer. Sure there are other releases that I would prefer to the ones on the Blender list, but they aren't going to list artists who have sold 10,000 cds or less, because it's a pretty mainstream publication. For everyone out there who has said this entire list is garbage blah, blah, blah, go listen to some of the artists on this last, and maybe you might change your mind a little. I think Jimmy Eat World and Radiohead probably should have made the list, but for the most part, I think Blender did at least a decent job trying to represent alot of different facets of popular music.

I agree that Nicole Scherzinger's gonna have a HUGE year. Well, she did in 2006, but it was actually credited as the entire PCD. we all know she did most of the vocals. and trash on me all you want, but i cannot WAIT to see new Avril Whibley videos! i don't care if she's married, she's still hot as shit! Oh, and i'm admittedly still in lust with Joss Stone
i'm not surprised AT ALL at their indie picks = same old shit: Modest Mouse, Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party, but i'm proud they mentioned the Shins.

ROFL @ how none of these end of year lists have The Used on them. Personally, watching The Used a) blow everyone away or b) crash and burn like 747 full of exploding dogs is going to be the highlight of the beginning of my year.

The Used have about as much talent as Good Charlotte.

THAT'S why 2007 might be pretty good music-wise. If the best they can come up with is Fall Out Boy and Lily Allen, I might as well just kill myself now.

I'm surprised Radiohead isn't on the list.

Sorry if anyone previously flipped a shit already, but..
Where in the fuck is Glassjaw and the Dillinger Escape Plan?
And come to think of it, the Fall of Troy is big enough for his list (maybe?). Come onnnn, Blender, get off indie's dick a little and dip a toe in the other pool.

I am too lazy to read all 100 posts so I forward with sorry if this has been said.
Why does the music world insist on cramming joss stone down my throat it's joan osborne and tracey chapman all over again. Anytime a soul singer comes out the music world swears I need them in my life and yet everytime I do just find without them.
Also I remember like 4 years ago when no one cared about three 6 mafia and I would jam to slob on my nob and now people wont shut up about them. I guess one lucky break can make you a star.
