I finally got around to reading this book.. its so awesome. Who else has read it? And now I've finally figured out the tie between it and that Ataris song "If You Really Want to Hear About It"

I love the kid in the story. It's just plain good.

*spoiler*

I like how the climax is right near the end, but it coulda happened differently than some random Navy guy standing there, and they all turn back into civilized kids. If they are so pumped on adrenaline and their savageness (...?), they wouldnt just... stop instantly. And then what the hell happens after that? Are they buddies again back on teh boat?

And since this is our first direct-interaction, I can't say that I don't like you. You are ok in my book.

i thought it was pretty boring. I had to read it for english. :(
My current fave is probably da vinci code, talks about jesus being a dad, religious symbolism in da vincis works, very thought-provoking. Now if u want mind-blasting and making-you-feel-like-dumbest-shit-on-planet type book, none other than Proffessor Hawkings A universe in a nutshell. That book is INSANE. I also read lots of fantasy. Mostly Forgotten Realms. Right now tho im reading Frankentstein and Romance of the Three Kingdoms(if u played dynsasty warriors or ur any type of self-repsecting Chinese, you know what im talking about)

I wondered that too..the kids went through such a transformation throughout the book, and then that all disappears? Just doesn't seem practical to me. If their inate savagry has come out, and they're barbarians, practically, why would that go away? Wouldn't they abandon all they had back at home?

Impressive...if your grades are as high as the difficulty of your schedule, then that picture of you at Harvard seems about right...

The reason they're innate "savagry" came out (personaly I don't belive that humans are innatly savage or that savage even exists, but I need to put this in the context of the novel) was because they didn't have the authority of an adult to keep them in check. the naval officer represents all of the outside forces that kept the civilized at home, hance their abandonment of savegry and return to civilization.
