Went to Warped today... here's my review:
The Ataris - The day started out well, with a solid set of I Won't Spend Another Night Alone, So Long Astoria, In This Diary, Make It Last, and The Boys of Summer.
The Used - Bert and the boys gave a strong performance...only two complaints from me: too much talking between songs, and they didn't play Box Full of Sharp Objects.
Sum 41 - In my mind the Sums don't get enough credit for the great show they put on. They played a lot of stuff off the new album and did the usual Master of Puppets cover. Rockin...
Rufio - I slipped out of Sum 41 before the last song so I could catch the greatness that is Rufio. Halfway into their set (a good mix of songs off each of their releases) I would say they had attracted a crowd comparable to the bands on the side stage. RU-FI-O indeed.
Less Than Jake - I refueled with some pizza and a 3 dollar water before I caught LTJ for my first time. Great setlist of All My Best Friends Are Metalheads, Johnny Quest Thinks We're Sell-Outs, The Ghosts of You and Me, History of A Boring Town, The Science of Selling Yourself Short, and Welcome To The New South. Nothin like punk with horns.
Dropkick Murphys - The Irish punks were on their game... complete with rabid fans equipped with DKM flags. I don't know much of their old stuff but I know the played Walk Away from the new album and did a Flogging Molly cover.
Mest - Tony removed his back brace shortly before they busted into a set of F'd Up Kid, Until I Met You, Opinions, Rooftops, Night Alone, Jaded, Drawing Board, and The Greyhound Bus. He was up to his usual antics, i.e. singling out a fat chick in the crowd who attempted to peg him in the face with a shoe. He gave my favorite line of the day "It's not that you are a b****, it's just that you are ugly and I would never sleep with you."
Pennywise - The word from the Wise...it is good. They played the new song God Save the USA, and usual fan faves: The World, Perfect People, Pennywise, F Authority, and of course Bro Hymn.
Face To Face - I love this band. After being around so long they still sound so tight. And I would say one of my highlights for the day was hearing a live Disconnected.
Thrice - Oh me oh my... I wasn't surprised when I made my way close to the stage to see three chairs lined up for the band to play an acoustic set. And so they sat, and laid down INCREDIBLE acoustic versions of In Years To Come, Identity Crisis, and Phoenix Ignition. But why had they bothered assembling the drum set? To welcome drummer Riley back to the fold and rip through See You In the Shallows, All That's Left, Trust, and To Awake and Avenge the Dead. Wow... perfection is the only word to describe that performance. Anyone who didn't get a taste of Thrice acoustic missed out.
Story of the Year - I rushed from the main stage after Thrice to catch only the last song from SOTY, In the Shadows. I hope to see a full set from these guys soon, they have so much energy.
Outstanding Warped Tour in the LBC. Advice: wear more sunscreen than I did because I am fried.
