Forth Effect - A Stranger In Cellophane Skin

Who:
A five-piece outfit hailing from Milwaukee, Wisconsin that has shared the stage with 12 Stones, Stavesacre, and Dead Poetic and self-recorded their debut A Stranger In The Cellophane Skin. Since this release, the line-up has changed featuring Voxy Brown taking over for vocalist Paul Drydek and Matt Wirnsberger taking over drumming duties from Anton Brinza.
How is it?
A Stranger In Cellophane Skin is technically proficient and shows a lot of promise for a debut album, but ultimately it sounds like millions of other unsigned bands out there vying to make a name for themselves in the current scene. The songs have a strong radio rock slant on them, especially in the vocals, which may or may not turn off listeners. A Stranger In Cellophane Skin has some good guitar work on it, especially the intro to “Still.Frame.Orbit.”, but ultimately the vocals did not mesh well with the instrumentation and sometimes the music strays onto a formulaic path. If you are digging the direction Hopesfall are taking their new material, than this EP may slide into your listening rotation and be one of your favorite unsigned acts, but those who hate the style found on the new Hopesfall record will want to avoid this one.
