Netflix vs Blockbuster

Currently I subscribe to Netflix 2-DVD at a time unlimited plan. I've heard a rumor that blockbuster is going to offer 1 free game rental per month w/ the Total Access plan, which has me considering switching. Total Access from what I've read is 3 at a time unlimited. I'm just looking for some people that currently subscribe to Blockbuster to let me know how well it is. Are they pretty quick w/ getting dvd's out to you? I don't have a Blockbuster near so I can't take advantage of the store return feature.

It kind of depends on what your looking for, service or variety? Blockbuster doesn't hold your return dvds extra days or attempt to limit your monthly rentals in anyway, they offer an in store free rental every week, and they allow you to turn in your movies at the store and take home another movie which doesn't count against your queue list. But they also lacks the variety of Netflix and have much longer waiting periods for newer or popular releases.

I’ve had both, I preferred Blockbuster although waiting for new TV shows to come available was very annoying. But since you don't have a store near you the main benefits of Blockbuster are kind of useless and if you don't mind Netflix’s "throttling" your rentals you’re probably better off staying with them.

my parents have Netflix, I have Blockbuster.

I like Blockbuster because the movies i get in the mail I can return in-store and get an in-store rental for free. What I do is put mainly TV shows on DVD in my queue, and then return them, and rent new releases in store ASAP.

the free game rental is an extra free rental that you can print out every month for a free game/movie rental whether new or old. i had netflix for a year or so and i've had blockbuster for the last couple months and prefer it because of the in store trading. if it weren't for the in-store i'd probably go back to netflix because it seems to me blockbuster is kind of slow about sending dvds. even though the fucking headquarters that mails the dvds is literally less than 10 miles from my house.

well...Netflix has a far greater variety and quantity of movies...so, if you are really into movies and watch a lot of movies that only get limited release, then go Netflix. If you mainly plan on watching New Releases, obviously go Blockbuster for the accessibility in store too.

But, the way to get around the Netflix shaft is ever 3 months, cancel your account for a few days...once you are done watching those movies and return them...and then restart it up...for me at least, it reset as if I was a brand new customer, and DVD's came flying to me again for a month or so. It doesn't cause you to lose your queue or anything...

thanks for the info, i think the free game rental is for store only so i guess i'll be staying w/ netflix until i move next year where there will be a blockbuster, thanks for all the info tho guys

First of all, I've never ran into the netflix trottling problems people are explaining and I've had NetFlix on and off for a few years. I had blockbuster for a few months because I had like a free trial or something. I thought Blockbuster was usually a day slower both ways. Thus, it would take 2 days longer to get a new movie on Blockbuster than on Netflix. I never did the in store returning because usually the store didn't have what I wanted.

I like the selection and speed and the website of Netflix alot better. If Blockbuster or Netflix was smart, they'd start renting games online too.

Yeah I've never had those problems either and I've had it for a couple years now. I've got no complaints with Netflix.

Yeah I've never had those problems either and I've had it for a couple years now. I've got no complaints with Netflix.
See...for the first month it'd be fine, but then by the 2nd month my turnaround time was closer to 5 days, sometimes a week...and I was within an hour or so of the distributing plant

I saw throttling at first but it seems to have ceased, probably because my dvd burner is screwing up and taking me longer to burn dvd's rather than the burn and turn in about a day that i had going on

you can get a combination of wal-mart, blockbuster, and netflix free for 2 1/2 months. you can get a 2 week free trial with netflix, go to cancel, and they'll offer you another 2 weeks. then do walmart, who offers a 30 day free trial. finally, go to blockbuster, who gives you a 2 week trial (although i just signed up today and my billing date isn't until the 24th, which is like 2 1/2 weeks). then you can decide which u like best and stick with them...or just get 2 1/2 months of movies for free. then do it over again with another credit card :)

it all depends on what you like to watch. if you're just renting TV shows and big movies, blockbuster if the way to go. i'm on the 3 movie plan for netflix and probably go through 15 movies a month because i watch all sorts of obscure movies, underground films, and tons of documentaries. netflix has all these, while blockbuster does not. so to me, blockbuster is a waste of time.

blockbuster is alot better. i use to have netflix but you have to mail it back when your done but with blockbuster online you can mail them back or if you want it sooner just go to the store and pick out another one. its alot better.
