Seriously...does Interscope feel like they can open their collective asshole any further for this band? Or is it stretched to the max?

because interscope said "hey give us a single and a video" and brand new gave them an instrumental and a pretty dark, unaccessable video (to the general population, at least)

I think you're all forgetting that the label, ESPECIALLY a major, decides the video. But I doubt they'd pick this, so it must be some wierd compromise.

Anyway, I always thought that video to be more of a one minute infomercial than a music video, but maybe that's just me.

a flat one-camera shot of jesse playing "jesus" would sell 10 times the albums this video will. this is nothing short of a "fuck you" to the record label.

good god. what happened brand new? what happened...

Jesse Lacey: its been strange as we never wanted to be a band that snubbed our fans, we realise that our fans have driven this band from the beginning. We were never really backed that strongly by our first record label Triple Crown, they were a really small indie label, the press, merchandising and distribution they were able to give us was really minimal. It was our fans, not marketing that gave us the record sales off that album, it was our fans telling people about our music and supporting us and wanting us to do well, and most of the people that like our band are still like that. They care about us in a way that they want other people to know about us too, you cannot really ask for anything more. Half the time when you are standing in front of them and talking to them kids are very civil, they realise you are just another person but there are some that have an expectation of us that we just cannot live up to. Ever. We have enough pressures in our own lives and trying to deal with who we are without this too and it becomes hard to be normal when in front of those people. We basically decided that things would be easier if we allowed there to be some mystery about us, we felt it was ok and that people did not need to know what Patrick ate for dinner last night, or where I spent my last vacation or what is happening in my romantic life. That pisses kids off though as they are so intimate with the music that they want all the extra information they can get about us.

I still don't see how this is a "fuck you" to Interscope.

a. Interscope gets to decide what videos are released. They obviously don't have a problem with this one.
b. They asked for a video, and what did they get? They got a pretty good viral video. There are at least 2 TV shows dedicated to this material, and it's a pretty good way to promote yourself.
c. This is more of marketing for the album than anything else. There are periods where you can't even hear the music, so they're not promoting that. They are however making sure you know the name of the album.

trindaddy
01/08/07, 09:30 PM
i like the video, but its obviously low budget, and not a single. its something they wanted to do. im sure they'll make a noninstermental song into a single soon.

The Coalition
01/08/07, 09:34 PM
If BN spent like 100,000 to make this video, then they stuck it to them. it's obvious it probably cost 500 bucks, and a few bottles of alcohol. The band does something out of the ordinary, and then comes back with the real video later, it's clever, it's exactly what i'd expect from BN.

And to whomever said that the band came back with this for their single and video choice is just plain uninformed. Did you miss Sowing Season at radio or what?

The real "fuck you" is to the music video networks playing a commercial in video rotation if you ask me.

i don't post much. nor do i intend to.

it was actually a bit of a shot at all the people here who would react something like this

"you don't know what that is? you're a fucking idiot. it's the video for the untitled track. etc etc"

i don't realy care. i'm just here to read news and other people's opinions.

hmm. riiiiight. i didnt know if it was promotional vid or what.

i dont understand why everyone thinks its a fuck you to interscope. brand new signed to a major, they knew they had to do certain things, one is making a video for a single, i guess this is what they want to do, doesn't make sense to me. but hey what do i know.
