View Full Version : That's What You Get When You Mess With My Friends

During "Saturday" (the final song of their set) on January 7th, Fall Out Boy (http://www.absolutepunk.net/falloutboy) was letting fans on stage to sing/dance/whatever. Apparently this angered a security guard to where he started grappling with a roadie or stagehand. This did not sell well with Pete Wentz who jumped into the crowd. The entire video can be found in the replies. Fist fights, girlie screams, and apparently an over the alloted "weight capacity" on the stage - this video has it all.

I hate security guards for that reason -- most of them take the job because they like the pseduo-authority and power. There's no reason for them to act the way they do, the littlest things are always blown so far out of proportion it's ridiculous.
It probably would have been cooler if he, you know, just separated them instead of going eye for an eye... but anger brings out some crazy shit in people sometimes.
It will be interesting to see the numerous stories surrounding this that will spill out in the next couple days.
True - but at the same time, if you see someone throw a punch at one of your friends, you usually hit back. I dunno, I hate violence, but the two biggest fights I've been in were because someone hit my friend and their friend tried to double team him (that sounds dirty). It's hard to "separate" two people when they're in the middle of something with that many people around. Fighting is never the first option -- but it's also something that, sometimes, does happen.

During "Saturday" (the final song of their set) on January 7th, Fall Out Boy was letting fans on stage to sing/dance/whatever. Apparently this angered a security guard to where he started grappling with a roadie or stagehand. This did not sell well with Pete Wentz who jumped into the crowd. The entire video can be found in the replies. Fist fights, girlie screams, and apparently an over the alloted "weight capacity" on the stage - this video has it all.
basically their own security.

isnt there a video of chad gilbert going into the crowd and kicking some ass somewhere ?
why is everyone sucking Pete's nuts for this. All he did was jump on some security guys back while his friend got his ass kicked. And then Hurley jumped off his drums and acted like he was going to do something until he realized that his 5 foot tall and 90 pound frame paled in comparison to the nine security guards. The entire situation was lame INCLUDING WENTZ playing tough guy. And all these people saying "now I respect Pete" are even lamer. But at the same time, theres nothing more hilarious than a bunch of 13 year old girls getting in the middle of a fight at their first concert.

Settle out of court - pay off your mortgage. Yet, could be self-defense? Could be a stipulation in his contract saying he can't sue? I dunno any of the details. Posted on the band's website (http://website.falloutboyrock.com/band.asp?d=journal):
so the friends or enemies tour has been amazing so far on the west coast. its been so amazing to get back into smakller venues. i love seeing the familiar faces. chad from nfg has been coming out and doing "i slept with someone in fall out boy" with us every night- its coool because it sounds way closer to the way it did on the cd now...
about tonight in new mexico. the whole night was amzing right down to the very end. everyone was going off for all of the bands and it made me so excited that our fans give the other bands we bring out a chance (or are just plain fans of them)... our set was going great- when we got to the end we decided to bring some fans on stage to dance with us for saturday- its something we always used to do. it was a blast. the whole night some of the security was doing a great job but we watched alot of kids falling- this is why we bring out some personal security. they went into the barricade and helped kids over- we want it to be as safe as possible. so during saturday one of the security guys grabbed a kid way too rough- both i and charlie yelled at him to let go of the kid. instead, he lunged at charlie and i and all of our crew came to his defense. noone ended up hurt, just some cuts and bruises. but we were asked to leave before the meet and greet could happen. we will make it up to you. we will be doing something special for the ocks there- and everyone who pre-ordered the cd will still recieve an autographed copy.
the best part was afterwards.... i just wanted to explain to the crowd that this only happened because they fucked with our friends- and all of our fans and friends got behind us. it gave me chills just to know that you guys have our backs. and hopefully for those who were there and saw it you know that i and we have yours. forever. im not gonna watch some kid get manhandled by some security guard twice his size. im really proud of you guys for how you handled it and for being understanding when we werent allowed to do the meet and greet...
and i know my mom reads this thing- so dont worry- we didnt get hurt!
anyway, the show was still great and cant wait to see some more cities...
there a couple of suprise shows coming up in cities who feel neglected by this tour- i promise...
love
p.s. the clandestine fender bass is finally done. it is being put together in a factory right now. fender was cool enough to give us 12 limited ones to give away in contests. keep your eyes open. the bass ships in april...

wow Pete, must have missed the part where the staff security "lunged at charlie". All I saw was a slight shove to back Charlie up and let the security do his job.
Neither party was in the right for this situation, but I can see Pete's reaction, I think most people would back up their friend instead of seperating.
anyways, I don't "respect" Pete anymore for doing this, it's human nature to react how he reacted.
Also, I know it's been mentioned that Guttermouth does this, but everytime I've seen Goldfinger(it has been a few years since I last saw them) they always close with Mable and let kids jump on stage. Also, attend any type of hardcore show and there are stage dives, mic shots, basically kids all over the place on the stage. yeah but he's like a five year old kid in a 30 year old dude's body, kinda like Michael Jackson. Do you really wanna have to listen to their shitty song over and over and over again for five hours while shooting that video? that sounds like torture to me.
wentz is a geek and shouldn't be allowed in the same room as Smith, but he did ask some good questions
they might be the worst live band of all time
they're actually pretty gay. but i do like how they over-exaggerate how weird looking those dudes are
this dude is definitely bias and his hatred for Wentz is obvious, but i still think this guy knew it was an advertisement. i also hate Jared Kauffman and Pete Wentz even more now. oh and this guy is definitely right about Wentz being gay, there's no way he likes girls.
exactly. didnt see Wentz land a single punch. and i'd pay to see Wentz get his ass kicked by that security guard
why is everyone sucking Pete's nuts for this. But at the same time, theres nothing more hilarious than a bunch of 13 year old girls getting in the middle of a fight at their first concert.

allister lets people onstage when they play "somewhere on fullerton." but they only do it if there are still people left at the end of their set. and if the people there actually know the words. i've only witnessed this once.

i'm just going to take a wild guess here, but i don't think anybody wants you in this thread.

It didn't sell out right away because it was misadvertised as a 16+ show, an error that wasn't caught until a few hours before doors.

also, those were some serious punches
and also, saturday is their best song hands down, i would have been kinda pissed if a security guard with a chip on his shoulder made me miss the end of it.

It's humorous. I remember that the Panic! show at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland was originally 21+ and apparently hardly any tickets sold. As soon as they made it all ages, it sold out and had to be moved to the Expo Center.

At the Anaheim show, I tipped the bartenders something like 75% every time I got a drink, to compensate for their losses for the evening - even the parents there were going to be driving their kids home, right? Oy vey.

If Fall Out Boy is too cool to wear laminates at their own shows then then they are too good to beat on their own security guards. It's just sad because they probably hire someone who talks to their own tour manager for them. So I predict that nobody knew who's job it was to stop the security guard becuase the line of communication is so rediculously rockstar. So everyone is clueless and Pete so humbly saves the day. I have never seen a band's bass player get so much hype, its kinda lame.
I have to admit, when I heard there was a video of this I was kind of hoping to see Patrick hit someone - yeah, I know I sound nasty, but just picture it in your head.

Haha, now I'm imagining him as the Hulk- it's pretty funny.
AAR brought fans up to dance on the stage during their concert recently. Except there were like 3 people and it was an arena stage so they looked extremely stupid.
I would have loved to see this! hopefully none of the 13 year old girls got hurt when a 250lb guys fell on their heads though.

its not the first time petes takin swings at asshole security guys, nor will it be the last im sure. if people are having a good time, and its not hurting him, then piss off. he loves fans and his dudes. i've seen him stop in the middle of a song because 2 guys in the pit were goin at it, made them stop and shake hands, say they're cool, then keep goin with the song.

"thats what you get!!!! after my friend has put u down i will stand on your head"
hardcore....
About as brave as the average gang on townies that pick fights in groups against people on their own...
Edit: If a group of security guards had jumped on his friend and he had jumped to his defence, yes that would have been cool.. But jumping into a one on one fight and getting sneaky digs in is really fucking cowardly... And annoying when other peoples friends take it upon themselves to get involved like that...... Meh i just dont think he should get koudos..... Maybe if it was a fan that was being hit (A la less than jake), but not a security guard.

i don't think he's a supposed to be a representation of the band in the first place, he is the security guard.
he is just doing his job in most cases, and sometimes that doesn't go over well with fangirls.
Thanks for finally clearing that up. If he was a dick to you, maybe you gave him a good reason to actually do HIS JOB. just sayin'...

All I really have to say is damn there are a ton of funny comments flying around this thread. Also this is the second time I've ever seen anything like this, although the first time was in person. I still remember a show I went to in '99 or 2000 when the Pageant in St. Louis first opened up and less than Jake was headlining and Anti-Flag opened. I can't remember if it was the bassist or guitarist of Anti-Flag stopped in mid-song to jump into the crowd at security that was roughing up some kid. seriously they were really messing this kid up. Punches were thrown and it was a pretty ugly scene for anyone about 10 feet from it. The show stopped until the security guard was removed. Now while I don't repect Pete anymore for this as he was just sticking up for his friend, I did have immense respect for the member of Anti-Flag. He saw something wrong with security and made it right.

i wish more bands did this. security think they can beat the shit out of kids at shows and get away with it. the norva is especially bad at this; they sometimes grab kids by the back of the neck and lift them off the ground and escort them out of the building for something like crowd surfing.
