I only read the transcripts after the speech -- I can't stand watching him talk, he makes me want to injure cute and defenseless animals.

What channel? All of them. haha.

It hurts me to watch him speak also, but my grandma insists on watching it. And she's half deaf so it's so loud, you can't get away from it.

It was basically just explaining why we are sending 20,000 more troops into Baghdad in hopes for the American public to side with his views. Duh...

Yeah he really didn't say anything that was new to me, we've been talking about this all week in my classes.

It was more of the same, only he has explicitly stated that there is an intent to spread the war to Iran and Syria.

makes you almost wish for one more bowl game so at least there'd be something else to watch.

Well...we turned it into a drinking game...the words "terror", "freedom" and "democracy" were key drinking words, as were his stutters...needless to say, we got about 20 minutes into the speech and were hammered...we counted each word being used over 20 times each...which is pretty absurd

Oh man...I can't wait to read this

This is the only quote I needed from the paper:
Bush said he considered calls from Democrats and some Republicans to pull back American forces. He concluded it would devastate Iraq and "result in our troops being forced to stay even longer."
He has officially lost it...how would the Democrats calling for complete removal of troops cause us to stay longer...the logic just isn't there...if it happens, and the Democrats got that, the troops would be removed...how could they "stay longer". The man clearly assumes that regardless of the criticism, we will just stay in Iraq until we accomplish his goals, and I guess he made that statement assuming if the "surge" got cut off...which shows his arrogance.
Edit: hahahaha
"Bush's strategy ignored key recommendations of the Iraq Study Group, which in December called for a new diplomatic offensive and an outreach to Syria (http://search.news.yahoo.com/search/news/?p=Syria) and Iran (http://search.news.yahoo.com/search/news/?p=Iran). Instead, he accused both countries of aiding terrorists and insurgents in Iraq. "We will disrupt the attacks on our forces," Bush said. "We will interrupt the flow of support from Iran and Syria."
Apparently "I'm going to listen to all the ideas" really meant "I'm going to do the opposite of all the ideas"
Iraq study group opposes troop build-up, urges talking with Iran and Syria...Bush builds up troops, says he will attack Iran and Syria instead

"This begins with addressing Iran and Syria. These two regimes are allowing terrorists and insurgents to use their territory to move in and out of Iraq. Iran is providing material support for attacks on American troops. We will disrupt the attacks on our forces. We'll interrupt the flow of support from Iran and Syria. And we will seek out and destroy the networks providing advanced weaponry and training to our enemies in Iraq.
We're also taking other steps to bolster the security of Iraq and protect American interests in the Middle East. I recently ordered the deployment of an additional carrier strike group to the region. We will expand intelligence-sharing and deploy Patriot air defense systems to reassure our friends and allies. We will work with the governments of Turkey and Iraq to help them resolve problems along their border. And we will work with others to prevent Iran from gaining nuclear weapons and dominating the region."

So, does anybody think that this speach was an underlying warning to America? I sort of took it as, Hey guys, we're about to invade Iran, so watch your ass because they have nuclear weapons. He mentioned terrorist attacks in America so many times that it was like he knew something and was trying to get it across without coming out and bluntly stating it.
And does this mean that the Iraq Government has until November to sort themselves out and then we're out of there?

I didn't take it this way. I took it as, we're going to fuck with Iran and here's some stuff to scare you so that you'll accept it down the line when we go for it.
i also doubt we'd pull out by november.

Agreed on both accounts...
And the "deadline" of November is probably for any action...not taht Iraq has to have thier shit together, but rather that if they are still doing nothing, then he'd consider cutting them off...but not really. Bush is still a businessman at heart, and deadlines for action are very much a joke in that world.
