i'd recommend "the proposition" if you haven't already seen it.
I just watched it today and enjoyed it. I'm probably going to buy it before the end of the week so it's still on sale at best buy, haha.

If you're an observant person you will love it. It reminds me of a lot of Tim Burton's work.

Haha yeah right, if you didnt figure out the twist the second Biel got stabbed you're slow.

I was talking about the visual effects like the clouded darkness around the screen and use of light/color, not the plot.

Definitely, I loved all the subtle details in this movie. Who cares if the ending was predictable, it was gorgeous to watch, highly entertaining, and boasted some great acting.

I loved this, I can't decide if I liked the Prestige more or this more. Probably the Prestige because I'm a big whore for Nolan, but this was excellent. Great to see two turn of the century magician movies, because you know everyone was clamoring for a boost in the output of that genre.

I figured out the 'twist' pretty early on..25 mins in I think..one line from Norton is all it took. It was a well acted pretty looking film; but it's nothing to write home about.
The Prestiege > The Illusionist

except that the prestige was still a good story even w/out the ending. The illusionist relied on a beautiful filming technique (almost exactly like Jean Pierre Jeunet's last couple of films) but lacked anything resembling a good story, and the acting was fucking dreadful.

The Prestiege > The Illusionist
I'd take The Illusionist although both were very entertaining. I think what fuels my decision is that I overanalyzed everything in The Prestige with my buddy and we ended up figuring it out before halfway through the movie. The Illusionist was so gorgious that I just watched it and enjoyed.

Really? I was under the impression that Norton was fantastic (per usual) and Giamatti gave yet another superb performance. Rufus Sewell was also very good(mustache aside). Get outta here. The only one I could see anyone calling weak in the acting department was Biel, but I think she served her purpose and it didn't take much away from the movie.
