I don't know what type of music you're playing or if you're playing in a band. But the Fender 212 combo amp is one of the best amps out there for how cheap it is. It's 120 watts which is louder than you'll need in just about every situation. The tone is decent. You might want to use a distortion pedal rather than the amp's distortion. And it's around $300. I play them everyday at school and my friend has one to. Obviously, it's not an amazing up but for the price it's good.

If you want an awesome little practice amp, check out the Epiphone Valve Junior. It's an all-tube amp and it's under $150.

imo, youre going to regret not getting a tube amp in a year or so... go with a midsized used tube combo if you get the chance... Peavey, maybe a fender Hot Rod Deville or something of that nature will do well.

The amp I rec'd is all-tube and under $150.

true, but that like the fender blues jr. just limit the hell out of what you can do... its 15 watts, which is cool for practicing and recording, but not doing gigs. i know you can mic them, but i really don't like the way those break up when cranked (just opinion). their tone section to my knowlege is like one dial, and its lacking some key features like a master volume, 3 band eq and reverb. sounds cool though, but again its an amp that in a year, you're going to wanna upgrade again.
the hot rod deville is a decent choice, but i don't the budget... you could always get a used hybrid amp like the marshall valvestates. i know the power section is ss, but most likely thats where his distortion is coming from... used valvestate combo can't run more than 300.

Patrick, thanks for recing me the Peavey XXX head. It rips hard. I can't wait to be able to put a decent cab under it.

He didn't specify what he needed the amp for, but from the language in his post I assumed he just needs a practice amp.

I definitely don't agree. I think that this amp is a great investment, because you can use it as your practice amp forever.

It's a Yorkville 2x12 that I picked up for cheap. It's not the greatest, and I get some humming out of it, but it works for right now, I suppose. I'll probably be upping it to a decent 2x12/4x12 sometime in the near future.

o thats a great one, check out the yorkville and traynor (sp?) amps... yea those little suckers are sick practice amps, but past that they can't do too much sonic damage

Yorkville's not bad as far as I know. Do you have any idea what speakers are in it?

And, I'm not sure if I mentioned this in the other thread, but if you set your cab on top of something to get it about 2 feet off the ground it will probably sound a lot better/louder.

On the front of the cab, it says Yorkville Stage 212G powered by celestion.

It's sitting on the floor right now, so I'll move it up onto something. I'll pick up some milk crates at the grocery store. Would that eliminate some of the buzzing I'm getting through it? Mainly, it's the 6th fret on the low E string.

If it's happening mainly just at one note (does it happen on the first fret of the A string, too?), then it's probably something loose in your cab that's resonating to that frequency. If you go through your cab and tighten all of the screws, that should fix the problem.

Oh, and FYI the speakers in that cab are Celestion G12T-75's. That's the same speaker that Marshall uses in all of their 1960 cabs.

Hahahaha, do you really expect me to be able to go through my speakers? I'll give it a shot, but we'll see where it takes me. I can tell that there is potential for it to sound really good, but it's just not quite there. Maybe it's just due to the fact that I'm a bad guitar player haha.

Not like physically THROUGH it, but just check all the screws and make sure they're tight.
