Lest talk three person or less bands [Archive]

I am consistently perplexed by the fact that it takes like 4 or 5 people to make up taking back sunday/etc. type bands whereas it only takes three people to make up unwound. How can it possibly be that 3 people are able to make an infinitely more complicated/amazing/creative sound than a five person band? This is a post for appreciating bands who understand the time tested principles of band member economics. Some good 3 person or less bands are:

modest mouse( my favorite)
unwound
giddy motors
hella
death from above
lightning bolt
sleater-kinney
quasi
764-hero
blonde redhead
am/fm
faraquet

and of course many others that you people will add on.

We mustn't forget Yo La Tengo (indiepop owns you), Mates of State (guy, girl, she plays the organ, he drums, they both sing, awesome sh!t) and Swearing At Motorists (two guys really CAN rock hard)... now... the question is... do we count "bands" from other than the rock-related genres?They Might Be Giants is two guys, both named John. Fischerspooner is two guys. Autechre is two guys. All yummy.

im definitely not closed minded. i dont care whether a band has 3,4,5 or 17 members as long as i like the sound. but there is no need for you to continue posting as many 3 person bands you can think of, it just gets annoying.

hmm i really cant think of any 3 person bands right now.. but its cool that those bands you listed can do everything. some people can do more than one thing at a time and do it well.. like drummers that sing , thats awesome

hah yea.. im still working on my "insane" fills. i get really nervous around people when i play, so i do much better when im all alone and i can flip out on my drumset :)

Can you guys stop scaring away cool n00bs. I completely agree with you dude. I marvel at how many people it takes for some bands to completely suck.

Off the top of my head, I'dd add q and not u and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Neither one actually have a bassist, though q and not u still rotate that instrument in when they play live. In addition to all sorts of electronics. Come to think of it, it should really take about 5 of them.
