I don't think half of the bands mentioned are pop-punk. Just because some people say that Good Charlotte and Fall Out Boy are pop-punk doesn't mean they are. They aren't really related to any pop-punk bands. I wouldn't classify them as anything other than alternative rock (alternative not in the sense of Creed, but more like an alternative to traditional rock).

lol, O love how someone on my thread said that GC and the othe half bands wern't pop-punk. Pop-punk is taking from two genre's of music. Alt Rock, and punk. The Pop Can stand for two things, Popular, Or the genre pop. It depends on how you look at it. Some say that POp stands for popular in music. i would agree in some terms. GC is a pop-punk band, so is NfG, Blink. Thise bands and Green day are the (and some others) ARE pop-punk. It all started with the Ramones. The only band lebelled here is underoath. Generally the early-to-mid 90's stuff, like Screeching Weasel, The Queers, The Mr. T Experience, Jawbreaker... And some of the latter-day bands, like Latterman, The Methadones, The Connie Dungs/A Radio With Guts, and The Ergs, are pretty excellent, too.

Well, when bands like Screeching Weasel were starting out, really the only type of punk still going strong was like the toughguy hardcore shit, and so the bands that started reviving the Ramones/Buzzcocks template and building their songs around catchy, sing-alongable melodies got branded as "pop-punk", and it stuck.

yeah they have a similiar style but their voices dont really soudn alike.
they're modern classics. there's no denying that.
I will deny it. Something cannot be modern and be classic. Think about every time you have ever heard the word classic, or any of its conjugations/derivatives, used. How many times is it used to describe something new/modern? The only example I could think of would be a sentence that says, "So-and-so's new film is a classic example of such-and-such...," but when used there the word is used as a way to link something with a technique that has been deemed "classic" over time.
I would love to continue addressing this, but I have to run to Mass Communication & Society which I will follow up with Philosophy of Environmental Issues. It's gunna be a great day.

so do you have a small dick or something? cause that last paragraph really seems like compensation.
anyway, cock, a modern classic is a title that you give to something that you can easily see becoming a mainstay for a long time and probably becoming a classic in the future. of course, it doesnt have to become a classic nor is it definitely going to become one, but for now, we can see it becoming a classic in the future. there's your lesson for today... maybe i should run that Mass Communication & Society class, eh?

Will Fall Out Boy be considered a classic? Are they ever close to it now? The answer is no. They didn't do anything to innovate music. They have gotten popular, and remained popular, by doing things other people have already done. They are simply a band that is "in" now, but that hardly gives you, or anyone, the ability to say that they are a "classic" pop-punk band.
Pop-punk is a very expansive genre of music. It spans from The Ramones and Blondie to blink-182 and Green Day. I find it very hard to call any pop-punk band a classic. Most of the bands that could be considered "classics" are still very much around and functioning, so I try and refrain from thinking of them as anything other than great bands.
Also, if you think you can run that class then you should probably learn to use proper grammar. It is a journalism class. Run-on sentences, sentence splices, and incorrect punctuations are generally something you need to teach a class.

The Ramones set out the template for most pop-punk bands out there, but I think The Buzzcocks refined the formula and Descendents kicked a little hardcore into it before it really became known as "pop-punk".
