Can't say I agree. Seems like a stupid idea given the current economic climate.
Edit: Link doesn't work.

I was going to say, I didn't figure you for a townhall reader.
Edit: Yes, it works now.

I am happy to hear of it, but would it be keeping certain people unemployed?

Ok cool.
Yeah I'm at work stuck posting on my phone. I'm just getting updates from the cnbc app. The townhall link was the first google showed. Now the Washington post is so I changed it.
Anyway, it'll be hard for me to debate from here. I know I'll likely be in the minority cause Jason and I disagreed about it awhile back. I'll try and post something substantive when I ge home.

Lots of people I would imagine.

Can't say I support the ban. Workers just need to be better trained of operating the rigs and better regulation
Edit: has the ban also affected the price of gas?

Drill, Drill, Drill

I feel like this will end up raising the price of oil. We really need to start investing in alternative fuels

I would agree with a ban on deep sea drilling such as the BP spill because they obviously can't manage disaster in those cases.
If this is a ban on all drilling, it is a terrible move and will only strengthen imperial interests that I'm sure Love As Arson can attest to.
The focus needs to be on alternative fuels, of course; I would just hope we wouldn't have to completely halt drilling to get there.

It's just a ban on drilling in the gulf.

I don't get it. Have we been having problems with anything other than deep sea drilling?

I just want my beach back =/
This is great news. Less drilling, more finding alternative energy.

I agree but I don't see this will furthering the cause of finding alternative energy.

Yeah, I feel like I'm one of the only regulars on here that supports this. Weird.

It isn't a full ban on offshore drilling, it's a rescinding of the proposals made by the Obama admin in March to expand offshore drilling into the eastern Gulf and up the Atlantic coast (note, although the article mentions the Pacific coast, other than one section of Alaska the Pacific coast was never included in this plan). The western Gulf of Mexico is still leased for drilling. Not only that, but the economic impact of reversing this will likely be negligible in the immediate future. Even if Obama were to open up these areas tomorrow the oil companies would have years of geologic and environmental impact reports, public lease sales and likely court challenges ahead of them.
I agree but I don't see this will furthering the cause of finding alternative energy.

No one will give two shits about the climate if they can't put food on the table.

If he can get gas under $2/gal for premium, I'd vote for Obama in 2012

He's going to have to drill in a helluva lot of places to pull that off.

Extremely hyperbolic for a change in gas prices of say, a couple cents or so per gallon.

Reversing the ban would do nothing for gas prices.
