Lily Allen
I'm almost shocked of how little discussion there is at AP about this pop sensation. I've only seen her name dropped a few times, and there appears to be no threads dedicated to her aside from one I made recently (http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=204941). This is a mistake (on my part as well), given that she was the blog sensation at the beginning of 2006, went on to become a pop sensation in UK, and now her album is being released at the end of the month over here. I am somewhat disappointed of discovering her so late, because I have truly been missing out, and it is my hope that others will realize the same.
Here is a cover of the Kaiser Chiefs (who I dislike) from our girl -- this song is absolutely adorable. I am addicted to it right now thanks to Derek (http://goodweatherforairstrikes.com/), who feels the same way. This upbeat pop song is somehow unique-- it is very catchy, but not in a generic sense. The hand-claps/snaps, the jingle of the tambo, all kinds of horns, and hand-drumming combined with Lily's unbelievable voice yields an incredible result. Any fan of pop would be selling themselves short by missing out on this gem.
Lily Allen - Oh My God
And here's another cover track -- this one's a live version of the Kook's "Naive", and while it is inferior to "Oh My God" (everything is right now, though), it is certainly worthy of a listen.
Lily Allen - Naive
Imogen Heap
She's no secret anymore, but that doesn't make her musical creations any less beautiful. "Speak For Yourself" is perhaps the album that does her incredible voice the most justice, but has been deservingly praised before. I recently came across a cover of hers: "Holding out for a Hero", as originally created by Bonnie Taylor (Shrek 2). Her endless range and musical capacity for a variety of methods has always been stunning, and this track is just another achievement on her already-glorified resume. I found this listed under her name, but it has been brought to my attention that it is actually Frou Frou, Imogen's band. Not sure if they're all under the Imogen Heap tag now or not -- anyway, here's the track.
