I was hoping of maybe making a sticky thread with some guidelines that may help a confused newb out. Post here what you guys think are some good guidelines for the forums and ill put everyone's thoughts together in one thread.

why is everyone so mean to the newbies? we all were obviously newbies at one time. i know i'm not one to talk but maybe if we all tried to get along? oh who am i kidding y'all are going to do what you want. maybe set up rules when we sign up.

It can get a little out of hand, but it's almost like hazing. If you make it through the crap people give you, then you'll generally be accepted.

That's not true dude. I put up some pretty important posts, that were important to me. People just laughed, mocked, and derided me. That's why I don't give a shit. Cause when you take something seriously, there are those people that completely blow you off and it sucks. So maybe you have to blame yourselves somewhat as to why the "newbs" are totally idiots.

Not true, a few of the more popular people on the forum are Devin, Colin, Zach, Bill, Brandon and Pat. They're all entirely different. Zach is an anarchist. Devin goes to Princeton and is very into the Jersey music scene. Bill is 20 and very laid back. Colin is a Canadian med student with cirrhosis. Brandon is in a Canadian ska band and is liked by pretty much everyone and Pat is incredibly sarcastic and occasionaly speaks in the third person. None of them exactly "fits in" but all are respected and well liked.

i dunno, that's just what happened to me...i stopped posting for a long ass time cause people were total asses to me for putting up a post on something i thought was important...ya there were the mature people who didn't...i'm just saying stuff from my perspective...but i get what you mean. I think the key to getting along well on this board is being educated, open minded, and mature. but that's just me.

That's exactly it. All of the people who are the well-liked can articulate themselves and post intelligently. It also helps if when arguing with someone you can flame them to hell, but that's not even completely neccesary. Just ease into it and post intelligently and you will be well liked. If you do post intelligently the smart ones will notice and respect you.

1) Spell and punctuate to the best of your ability, for god's sake. it'll help everyone out in the long run, because truthfully....if i had to read stuff that was "speltt liek thsi fro hte lsat 6 mnoths" (spelled like this for the last 6 months), i would have gone crazy by now.

2) Keep your posts relevant. Some threads move along from one topic to the next like a normal discussion/conversation, and i'm cool with that, as long as the switch isn't blatant. Like, if it's a thread about say, NOFX, make a reply about NOFX, and if you want to ask a question about Dropkick Murphys, then do it a couple lines under in the same post. That way, your question may be answered, and the thread could also continue with the NOFX topic. Same goes for answering. Discuss NOFX, then answer DKM question.

3) Make sure that there isn't another thread about the same topic you want to start a thread about. We have already seen maybe 20 threads each devoted to Deja Entendu, and TBS's on again/ off again situation. One thread is more than enough for a topic.

4) Don't come in here as a newbie and act like you are holier than us. This attitude will not be liked by anyone. While we may not necessarily be holier than you truthfully, when you have 1-10 posts, and we don't know anything about you, and you act like you're tough shit, we're going to flame you. Gaining respect is critical if you want to stay here, and being Holier Than Thou will not impress anyone.

5) Don't make a post that won't add anything to the discussion. Stating that you like cheese in a thread about Warped Tour will not add anything, and will generally piss people off.

6) Getting flamed is a newbie tradition. If you make it thru the flaming as a newbie while gaining respect, you will be generally accepted for the rest of your tenure here.

Think before you post. No one word answers. If you agree, and you have to say so, do it, but add something else to it as well. Try to stay on topic...I understand things branch out sometimes, but don't make the first reply to an Alk3 thread about Finch. It really is pointless. And don't just quote something someone else said if you agree. This just takes up space. Also, do your best to read over your posts before you put them up.
