View Full Version : Tell All Your Friends or Take This To Your Grave
Both are amazing albums that jump started two bands career. They have both hit the big time selling out arenas but which release was better?

WAY too hard for me to pick...
I remember when both cds came out though, i think i was like... 11 or 12 and i heard the songs over at a friends house, and then like a month or so later i saw the Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy? video and was like, they're pretty good..
But then i saw the 'Cute Without The "E" (Cut From The Team)' video, and i was kind of like "meh... i like the whole two vocalists idea, and it works for them, but they could do better.."
So to sum it all up in a nutshell, i can't pick between the two, cause they both have had, and still have a tremendous influence on the type of music i listen to today.

both were great albums but heres why tell all your friends was better....take this to your grave is the kind of album that you play really loud in the car with a bunch of your friends and just sing every song, having a great time...however tell all your friends was more influential upon the listener than take this to your grave. countless number of people have listened to tell all your friends and when it was over, thought about how much they could relate to that album (and you can also play it really loud in the car with a bunch of your friends and sing every song having a great time)...therefore TAYF was a better release because of how much people could relate to it and how much influence it had upon people

i agree with what avengedtbs said.
i know what it feels like when John yells "best friends means i pull the trigger; best friends means you get what you deserve". or "i know you well enough to know you never loved me"
and i simply shake my head at the stupidity of "i wouldn't piss to put you out" and "stop burning bridges, drive off of them". while "clever" in their own stupid little ways, neither are anything relatable, or atleast not to the extent of TAYF.
i can listed to TTTYG whil taking a shit.

It can go both ways. In my opinion they can both be a little over dramatic, but thats how we remember certain lines in songs. Atleast with me the lines I remember the most are the ones that are over dramatized.

What are you talking about? Being able to relate to an album more so than another, doesn't make it a better album, and either does being able to play an album loud in a car with a bunch of friends. Maybe to you, but you can only speak for yourself. And in your post, you're talking as if you know that more people were affected by a certain album than another. You don't know, and you can't make those kinds of calls for other people.

so that makes TTTYG the better album? and, yea, a few months ago TBS was doing all that. still, though, it has nothing to do with the argument. TTTYG, while catchy and an album that i love, cannot hold a candle to the raw emotion that is TAYF. TAYF era Taking Back Sunday was always, and will always, be better than ANY era Fall Out Boy.

Fo sho, I'm Wellington too. Yeah, it's pretty tough when most of my friends first heard of Fall Out Boy because "Sugar, We're Goin' Down" was on the radio.
But as long as you have an internet connection, you'll survive.

TTTYG, hands down. When I listen to it now, it still holds up, the hooks sound great, and it gets me energised.
TAYF just sounds like teenagers whining. Looking back, the singing is terrible, the production is mediocre, and I can't feel the lyrics, because I'm not a chump anymore.
you can't fucking feel the lyrics?

The only thing that saves them now is that Patrick's voice keeps getting better in spite of Pete's lyrics getting worse by the record.

Well if it helps, Patrick wrote a lot of the lyrics for TTTYG, so you probably just don't like Pete's lyrics if you hate FUCT and IOH.

He's awful. I used to think he was somewhat clever and then I realized that he just rips off his style from American Nightmare. On top of that he writes the most impersonal lyrics that I can think of. Every line follows the same basic formula: I/he/she/we are (verb) (adjective) (noun that is totally unrelated to the adjective yet most 15 year olds will find clever and search for some deeper meaning when there isn't one)
If anyone says they relate to IOH as a whole or that it changes their life then they're liars and will only solidify their teenie bopper status.

As long as they do that, everything will be inferior to that record and they'll never gain new fans and will continue to lose long time fans. You can only put out the same record so many times before people stop listening.

well slowdance is the best song o WYWTB, but the problem with the album is the lack of creativity with the lyrics and the watered down crap they made when nolan left. sure, the songs are catchy and seem fun at first but three listens in you realize the void of not having nolan in the band. i dont hate the cd's but in terms of life changing, TAYF friends will never be topped again. I think they should beg nolan to come back and throw out that loser fred who seems nice but in reality you can tell he screams in front of the mirror while changing his hair styles to try and fit in to the appropriate scene. its pathetic
