What is everyone's take on the new RBK Edge Uniform System (http://www.rbkedgeuniform.com/)? I personally hate it. I hated it when they introduced the Nike Swift jerseys for the Olympics, I have played hockey all my life and have never seen the uniform as a problem. I also don't like the fact that it is called a uniform system. I just think if it's not broken why fix it?

If they never tried anything, we would still be wearing wool sweaters with ties at the neck. I dont mind the change. Its a lot better than everyone made it out to be at the beginning of this process.
Also, will goalies be wearing these? Cause sometimes the puck gets caught up in excess sweater.

Why exactly will lamourello hate it?

because he hates marketing ideas like this. thats why the devils have never attempted to get a third jersey or anything like that
although i did see vanderbeek (our new owner) in an interview a few weeks ago and he didnt seem to mind it

i do wish that we'd get a black third jersey though. i've seen an error print of a black devils jersey (the red home jersey color scheme basically inverted) and it was sweet

yeah a black jersey would be sweet
i would like a black jersey with the Devils' head as the main chest log. also, i have a hat that has the NJ and D all combined...that looks cool too

Eh. I'd prefer to not change from what they use now, but i'm not going to make a terrible fuss over it. It's not like they're changing the puck (like the nba did with the ball) or the nets like it's been talked about.

I still think they need to make goalie's equipment smaller again.

fine with me...marty uses the smallest pads/chest protector in the NHL as it is

Fine with me, too. We allow the fewest shots in the NHL (at least we did, i don't know if it changed at any point).

But according to last season's Stanley Cup champion goaltender and Vezina winner, Martin Brodeur of the Devils, the rule is misguided. "It's got to be proportional to your body" says Brodeur, who wears 34-inch pads. "That's why the rule should be individual. The advantage of a little goalie wearing 38 is bigger than a bigger goalie wearing 38. Everybody should get measured and say, 'OK, you can have this.' And the guys who don't (follow that) should be penalized. You shouldn't be penalized for being 6-4 or 6-5." The players' association, apparently agreeing, has filed a grievance about the rule, contending the players were not consulted.
Brodeur, 6-2, has tried 35-inch pads but found they disrupted his play. He is mobile and likes to play with his hands near his sides, and the bigger pads get in the way of his glove. He notes other ways goaltenders cheat--such as wearing their goalie pads loose so they drop in a way that covers the net better, even when they can't get into position. And, he says, before the ban on rigid knee guards, goalies would pull the tops of the guards so they were outside the legs of their pants instead of tucking them in. That provided butterfly goalies additional equipment to cover the five-hole. Rules may change, but pushing the envelope will continue, just in different ways.
King says 18 goaltenders had pads longer than 38 inches last season. The Islanders' Garth Snow reportedly topped the pad charts at 44 inches. Identifying last season's culprits shouldn't be too difficult as the season wears on. Brodeur says the overall statistics might not show a huge impact, but there will be a definite effect on an individual basis.
"The middle-of-the-road goalies who right now are good goalies," Brodeur says, "are going to go back to being middle-of-the-road goalies."

theyre slimmer
they wont be as loose as the current jerseys
Those jerseys are going to suck for the goalies. I don't know exactly how tight they are, but judging by Huet's arms, they are going to be somewhat restrictive.

Under the armpits are a mesh-like fabric. It wont be that restrictive.
The armpits have almost no bearing on a goalie being restricted.

Ever try to lift up your arms in a sports jacket/suit?

They aren't that bad.

Luckily, I don't play in a suit, I play in a jersey that rises when I lift my arms. The restrictive part of the jersey that will effect the goalies are the arms, especially the elbow and the back of the upper arm/shoulder area.

i definately used to always do that

yea they do, the whole area around the shoulders and the area near around the elbows are the area that gets the most restricted by jerseys

well these jerseys wont move as much when the arms are lifted, hence the mesh in the armpits

I don't care if my jersey comes up a bit, it goes right back down to where it should go. I just think that there should be a better selection of where the stretchable mesh goes, because the armpit area matters less than the upper arm area in terms of movement.

When you lift your arms, the armpits are being stretched so much with the mesh that the jersey on your arm doesnt need to move.

I think we've begun debating a point that no one actually disagrees with.
I'm referring to arm-crossing movements, such as going from the right post to the left post in paddle down, poke checks, even reaching your arm out to cover the puck with your glove. All these movements become more difficult with a tighter jersey, and the armpit mesh won't help this restriction.
I've had to play in plenty of crappy leagues that make the goalie wear a player jersey that fits like Superman's costume. While there were people like Roy who took the loose jersey to the ridiculous extremes, a goalie does need a different fit/cut to his jersey.

im sure that the fabric of the jersey and the different fit/cut for goalies is fine and wont restrict movement. Since players helped in the design of the jersey im sure that they did not forget goalies. If the movement is somehow restricted then they will change the jerseys, we'll know by after the all-star game how the jerseys go over and if any changes need to be made
They were saying during the skills competition that the whole jersey is made with stretching fibers, so that might not be too bad.
