So granted, the last few shows I've been too have been really good, but like i said, i love going to shows, i don't exactly like the atmosphere of shows. But I guess I was that age once too. It's just a bit tough being older at an all age show.Heavy Heavy Low Low was an interesting band of the night. Their set was kind of what I expected. Their singer didn't really do much, but the guitar line did all the work with ridiculous, and times, almost cocky moves. I got just what I got out of their record from these guys, completely A.A.D. noisecore, nothing special, but something different to listen to i guess.
Next up was Murder By Death. Taking the stage with one less member since their second full length. The one less member had no effect what so ever on their performance. In fact their final instrumental song (the title escaped me, I believe it was either off of Like the Exorcist or it was just random) was as amazing as when I saw them play Those Who Left three years ago. Geoff even came out to sing vocals on "Killbot 2000". Just a great performance from what i believe to be an underrated band.
Fear Before the March of Flames came upon the stage which was decked out with Asian lanterns that was a great light show for what would be a great set. Burning through the best parts of The Always Open Mouth, they played "Should Have Stayed in the Shallows" off of Art Damage, and it almost sounded like the worst song of the entire set. The highlight was "My (fucking) Dear Hunter", just a great song, and after talking to Zach after the show, was the first song for the album him and Adam sat down wrote together. Fear Before showed me how far they have come from the simple riffs of Odd How People Shake to the brutality of Art Damage, to just experimental onslaught that is the new record, and they fact that they could pull the new record off live as well.
The last time, and only time, I've ever seen Thursday was on Warped 02 in Houston. Because of rain complications that day, I only got to see them play four songs, but the four of my favorites from Full Collapse. I was really excited to see them, and they didn't dissapoint. Starting with "At this Velocity" they blazed through their albums (except Waiting) with their best songs, even the ones off of A City By the Light Divided. When they played "Understanding (In a Car Crash)" I was so floored, i made like the 16 yr old kid in me and ran straight into the crowd and started singing along, like it was the first time I heard that song on MTV2, and then when I went and bought the album a week later. Needless to say, Thursday are as good as they've ever been, and even the new album pulls off so well live, almost better than the studio.
