Are The Used and Finch considered emo? Call me naive, but I am just kind of uncertain on what exactly fits under "emo" these days. If they aren't emo, what exactly is thier kind of music called?

don't label music like that.... label it good or bad... that's all you need.

I know, I know. I think the same way usually, but i want to find more bands that sound like them, so I am wondering what genre they fit under, also so when people ask what kind of music is my favorite, I have somehting short and easy to say. I'm not trying make sure I listen to the right genre, I'm just curious,

Well, they have emo lyrics..... and emo is all about the lyrics, not how they play it. IMO. so yes they are emo IMHO.

emo is emotion right? so emo is everything, everything is emotional, because we're not robots, we're human, we live on emotions, so everything is emo.

even "punk" is emo.

We ought to just make a sticky about answering this sort of question. "Emo" is an abbreviation for emotional hardcore, not just emotional. That's why it actually makes sense as a genre. If emo only referred to the lyrics, then it would just a mood to the music. Seriously, go listen to some Rites of Spring and tell me that you hear any soft rock in there. Matter of fact, emo bands were famous for vocal chord-shattering intensity, not weeping and moping. Emo is not all about the lyrics. It's just that the lyrics put it aside from other hardcore. In addition to a lot of musical characteristics.
