The Almost (http://www.myspace.com/thealmost) has been upstreamed from Tooth & Nail to Virgin Records.

The Capitol and Virgin imprints will still remain, Capitol Music Group is more of an executive/staff merger...

wow, congrats to them, this album is gonna be huge and definitely one of the best of the year, imo.

That's a pretty strong statement, considering that this year is set to release new material from TSL, Motion City Soundtrack, and many other great bands capable of making amazing records. But I'm sure this record will at least be decent.

Well this is definitely surprising. I bet this will sell really good though, with the distrobution it's obviously gonna get. I can just see the sticker "Aaron from Underoath's side project!" and every hardcore kid will pick it up. Good for him though.

but whatever.

C.J. Roberts
01/28/07, 07:21 PM
what does it mean when an artist is upstreamed?

It means a major label is picking an artist up from an indie label. Usually an indie will build a bands pubicity up for a few albums before a being upstreamed, but obviously virgin thinks they can sell and distribute this right off the bat.

I thought this was just going to be a small project but I suppose it could blow up fairly well, a lot of people immediately turn their heads away from underoath because "they don't like screaming." Yet, a ton of majors tried to get ahold of Underoath before Define but Underoath wouldn't do it.

AFSjulian
01/28/07, 07:24 PM
Underoath sold way more records than anyone expected on T&N. If they wanted to, they could've signed to a major ... they've just said numerous times that they didn't want to. The Almost has UO's built in fanbase, which in theory gets them at least gold sales. On a major, it'll get pushed to radio and maybe even MTV, which exposes them to kids who wouldn't like Underoath 'cause they're too heavy but that will love the whole catchy, poppy thing Aaron has going with The Almost. I think it's genius, although it makes me wonder how much Aaron wanted to keep UO on T&N.

the contract has at least one more, i believe. possibly two. so i believe so.

and the almost is gonna blow up. i can see underoath putting out maybe one more album and then everyone split into side-projects with the almost already leading the way.

thats my 2 cents and congrats to aaron. thanks for representing tampa so well.

This is a great thing for the Almost and Virgin. The guy who picked this up was always a fan of Underoath. He also has the starting line. Randy manages both and introduced him to Aaron. The song is a smash, the record is great, and theres a built in fanbase that is going to make this a great parnership for the new Virgin/Capitol Music Group along with a very very well run and developed Tooth and Nail; who is going to work this record in some of the specialty non-secular areas from what I understand... The people at T&N are class acts and its great to FINALLY bridge the gap!

so....... YES REALLY!

i know a few radio djs that are impatient for the singles to drop. theyre thinking itll be bigger radio wise than underoath. guess the record lables agree or something.
Well The Almost is clearly more radio-friendly and marketable than Underoath is so it's certainly logical.

Wow, I am pretty impressed. I've been excited for this record since November and can't wait to get my hands on it, especially now that I know it's good enough to receive such credible backing and support. That must mean something. It is certainly making me realize that I should appreciate Underoath while I can cause at the rate they've been going lately, this contract on T&N is going to be their last. However, The Almost could explode and stick around for quite a while, I personally wouldn't be at all surprised.

The members of Underoath all love hardcore music and they dont seem to care about money as much as the music thats why they denied major labels, however, aaron likes crap like the new TBS or the starting line or say anything, i can totally see why he would make this move in his career, he wants to be a rock star.

TSLManager
01/29/07, 10:48 PM
you are corect, they are working together. it's on both labels with the best people and both companies helping. That way it gets the best parts of being on a major and an indie.

To the other people, dont read too into Aaron being on a major and UO being on an indie. Some bands fit better at a big label and some fit better at a smaller one. If you look at the styles of music and the goals of each band it makes perfect sense for both to be where they are.
