What's your opinion? I think they're a way to prop up an obsolete trade system, and arts that no one cares enough about to support.

Now I hear you out there saying "What about the family farmer that can't compete?"
Well, when was the last time you went to a Blacksmith to buy a pan?See what I'm saying?100 years from now nobody will care about Uncle Jesse losing the dirt farm.

Oh and the arts.We have TV now,so nuff sedd.Charge a cover at the museum door.If people won't pay to see your paintings.Get better ones.

I don't support subsidies. Here in NZ between 84-90 the government cut all subsidies and trade barriers in a rather ruthless fashion of new right economics. The hurt was powerful and a lot of people missed out.

However it forced NZ's farmers to become more competitive (being a hugely agricultural nation it's important) and changed our industries. Now NZ is placed near the top of world for competitivity in agrivculture. Kiwifruit from the UK create more carbon output than kiwifruit grown in NZ then shipped to the UK.

I'll elaborate and ramble more if someone is for trade subsidies.
