I think they made it kind of plain so it blends in on the shelves and people don't remember how ridiculous this band is.

Kidding. I actually don't think it's too terrible though. Nice and simple. Now I'm just seeing if GC's popularity is actually going to revive itself.

This "band" is ridiculous. They change their sound to whatever the current fad is (if that isn't the definition of "sell-out" then I don't know what is). Their last album they tried to sound "dark" and whatnot because that was the fad then and now they're attempting to go for the dace-rock sound because Panic at the Disco is popular.

I even noticed that on the cover that one of the guitar players is playing keyboard now? What the hell? Is this a joke or are they seriously trying that hard?

this band's career sorta reminds me of smashmouth, how they were pretty big with their first and second cds but then changed their sound to the "tween" market and went downhill. they should tour with k-fed.

Not that I'm trying to defend them, but they did tour with two keyboards on stage after their last album. Just to clear that up.

Even if they are are 'sell outs' and I haven't liked them in the past. I will still give the new album a chance, I guess it could surprise us??

They don't deserve it? Ok I challenge you. You go write some catchy songs like they did. You go and write chords, solos, and melodies. Then go on the road for a many years while touring in a van. Play the small stage at Warped Tour. Release several EPs that barely sell. Have a first real CD that takes off, but not enough to give you a tour bus. Face it, they paid their dues, and they are where they are for a reason. Lets see they formed in what 1996 and they didn't have "real" sucess until late 2002. Thats called paying dues. Most bands these days don't even last that long.

I don't understand how you can say they don't deserve where they are? They wrote their own songs, they play live (hell even instead of using preprogrammed keyboards sounds they tried to pull them off live!), they traveled the country playing the crappy shows, the small shows all the while being up a fan base. Am I big Good Charlotte fan? No, but if a band can write their own songs (some damn catchy ones at that) and play their instruments pretty good, and they put on a fun live show they deserve atleast some respect.

Just because you don't like a band doesn't make them a horrible band that doesn't deserve anything. I hate plenty of bands (like MCR but that doesn't mean I don't think they suck at music or don't deserve to be playing arenas).

no one here is saying they're the greatest band on earth, but give the dudes a break.
i saw them when they were playing small clubs back in the day & i've seen them at arenas. they've always put everything they had into their live show, unlike some bands, because they actually do give a crap about their fans.

i dont think the majority of these posts are pointing out that they haven't payed their dues
but pointing out that this band sucked after their first, maybe even second cd
i mean really, how are you even defending them, or claiming they deserve respect as musicians, after listening to the train wreck that was the Chronicles of Life and Death?
just cause a band can write their own songs and play their own instruments does not mean they're good or deserve their fanbase
and i think its ridiculous of benji to think they still have all their fans from when they were huge
this fourth cd better be good as hell to get people back after that last one
and if the album art is any indication of what's to come, then my hopes on that happening, aren't too high

I hate plenty of bands (like MCR but that doesn't mean I don't think they suck at music or don't deserve to be playing arenas).

oh shit! sick burn. well said.

Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

ROFL HORRIBLE CD

Yeah uh, I'm sure you all heard it.

Grow the fuck up. You're acting like junior high kids who say things suck just to say it sucks.

Calling everybody else pretentious sound eqaully pretentious. So what if Good Charlotte jumps trends, so do 95% of the people here.

I think this album cover sums up the band.

Dumb
Annoying
Created with zero talent and a bad use of image

yep

I don't know the technique used, but in that photo, it looks like they painted shapes at different skew around the room, to give the visual effect of an actual shape when stood at a certain angle. I can't remember the name of the technique, but I think its really inspired..

I like it.

this band's career sorta reminds me of smashmouth, how they were pretty big with their first and second cds but then changed their sound to the "tween" market and went downhill. they should tour with k-fed.

God knows I'm not a huge advocate of Good Charlotte, but it's unfair to compare them to Smashmouth. Smashmouth had one popular song (that they actually wrote) and Good Charlotte has had plenty of radio singles.
They used to have a huge following. They have changed their sound, but not as much as people are making it sound.

just because they had "radio singles" doesn't mean they are good.

also, name just one of their songs that was as popluar as "All Star". you can't. because you know there are still days that you wake up with that song stuck in your head.

can someone just tell me who the drummer is?From Wikipedia.org:

"Dean Butterworth is a professional drummer. He plays for popular singer Morrissey and is currently a drummer for the band Good Charlotte after they lost their previous drummer, Chris Wilson. Dean is also known by his nickname, "Deano." He is the oldest member of the band."

Thank god there's someone else in this thread that's willing to be open-minded about a CD. You've heard two songs, IMO, one of which was pretty good (The River) and one of which was fucking horrible (Keep Your Hands Off My Girl). I don't understand how you can be that against just keeping an open mind. Sure, say that their last album was a piece of shit. Comments like this:
I like the cover, it is neutral. The cover is cool.I like the band!!!
I have evry record and I have heard two songs from the new record and I think its great!
The song ,,The River´´is now my favorite song.Is ingenious!
I like the cover cause there only three coloures, whit grey and orange,is very cool.
I like it cause you can see the band,Joel,Benji,Billy and Paul and this is a classic.!
This is the shit you come up with for your first post. I'm so happy you joined the community. I hope you don't post again until puberty sets in, which sounds like it's a long way off.

They've always been a Christian band. Look at the lyrics for "Moving On:"
Life.
Hope.
Truth.
Trust.
Faith.
Pride.
Love.
Lust.
That's a generally Christian outlook on the world. As well as "Not everybody knows that everybody goes to a better place." And the lyrics to their latest song, "The River" are very heavily religious:
Baptized in the river
I've seen a vision of my life
And I wanna be delivered
In the city was a sinner
I've done a lot of things wrong
But I swear I'm a believer
Like the prodigal son
I was out on my own
Now I'm trying to find my way back home
Baptized in the river
I'm delivered
I'm delivered
