Watching this just prompted me to think are the large majority of americans really this ignorant? And does it not bother you that other countries see you in this way? Either way it's pretty funny.

Eh, some poeple are stupid. And these shows capitalize on those stupid people. They probably asked about 100 people that knew the right answers, these are the 20 or people that didn't...though as I watch this it does make me ashamed
LMAO at the John Howard thing. And I can't believe poeple don't know simple geography!

the axis of evil one where the guy says 'germany' is loaded. we haven't really used the "axis of evil" definition for iran, iraq, and north korea for a while and the WWII axis is much more "famous."
EDIT: the last part makes me sick. it's disgusting how quick some people are to just blindly follow leaders.

Americans generally aren't that intelligent regarding these things. A UCLA poll a few years ago found that only 11% of college students could name a Supreme Court justice but 33% court name a judge from television. Pathetic.

Was a repeat episode from about around when the War in Iraq broke out the station that that show runs on has no decent shows so they have to resort to repeats of the few good ones they have had previously. Still some of those people are fucking retarded. I thought most people at least knew where Australia is without thinking it could be Korea. and not even knowing our prime minister. lmao.
When it comes to politicians no country is really has better than any other but its just the whole idea of a bunch of god fearing born again christians who follow the every command of someone who comes across as a little slow on the uptake that is kinda scary.

Nah these guys go all out with their stuff. A few weeks ago the guy in that video got sent to court because he posed as an official match day merchandise seller selling knuckle busters and fake knives at a Rugby League game where there had been problems with crowd violence. The team was based in an area notorious for its crime rates and violence. It wouldn't be an act they started out as a bunch of radio presenters and did it on a pretty cheap budget at first.

Don't get me wrong I don't really have anything against American's. It's just the overall view of Americans by Australian's is something along those lines just add to that the are all obese fuckers as well. But talking on forums like this i rarely encounter people that fucking thick cept for maybe a few kids who watch way too much MTV. Dw same thing happens here.
These are punk based forums so in general kids involved with the punk scene are far more aware of the world surrounding them and are a pretty small minority. I really just wanted to know if people really are that bad over there. TBH the few americans i have met in my life kinda come across as ignorant as the people on this video.

You're right. I'd say that the people in the video represent some of the more ignorant people in the population, although I think they are more numerous than you think. I mean all you ahve to do is look at this community. There are 5,977 threads in the entertainment forum, and 1,808 in the politics forum. America just wants to be entertained. We'd rather eat up tv game shows like Deal or no Deal, and garbage like MTV than think about, become educated on, and debate intellectual topics that will determine our futures.

In all honesty, yes.
I feel stupid in a conversation about politics with anyone here after going through American public schools. They really teach you so little about any other country. Essentially no one in my high school, which was two hours' drive from the Canadian border, could name the prime minister. Not even teachers. Can you? The history they teach of other countries is abysmal. It's not so much the people's fault, they just don't get taught anything, and haven't for generations.
Eda went to school in Albania, where she had to know the name and capitol of every US state. Same thing with my mom who went to school in Canada in the 60's. Eda had to know all about how the governments of all the countries nearby. Can you even describe the governments of your two neighbouring countries? Can you even name their leaders? And it's not because you're stupid (well...), it's because no one teaches you. American education really doesn't care about the rest of the world (cue Mike Myers looking at me as if I'm crazy). Maybe instead of learning about "checks and balances" every year since fourth grade, they can teach a little something else.

I don't know too much about the U.S. either. I doubt I could name 30 states, and I doubt I could name 8 capitals. We were supposed to learn them in both 5th and 8th grade, but like, my class didn't both times, coincidentially, so I know nothing.

Funny video, its an almost universally held view here that Americans are mostly fat, materialistic and stupid. Not an entirely true stereotype
Ok, with you so far
but the south gives the rest of the US a bad name.
Darn! See, now you've lost me. Why debunk your credibility like that? You admit that most non Americans' perception of Americans as "fat, materialistic and stupid" is a stereotype and therefore false, and yet you back up this bit of info with another stereotype? The rest of the US doesn't need the south to give the US a bad name, every state gives the US an equally bad name and by spouting silly stereotypes and hasty generalizations like that, you give us a bad name too
